For nearly two decades, I have been serving students throughout Berkeley, Lafayette, Oakland, Orinda, Piedmont & Walnut Creek, amassing thousands upon thousands of hours of private tutoring experience. I not only help students with the topic at hand, but I get them excited about it.
Having a Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering BS from University of Missouri – Columbia and a MS from University of California – Berkeley, I use my knowledge to help others with all levels of math as well as in physics and chemistry.
With anecdotes involving differential equations from my real world experience at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space, material science explorations on the microscopic scale at Sandia National Laboratories, and practical applications in day-to-day life, I tie the subject matter to real world endeavors.
Beyond my experiences, I am lucky enough to have a wide array of friends who are doctors, software engineers, water quality engineers, MEMS engineers, and start-up entrepreneurs. I can speak of their work with their use of math & science in Silicon Valley, in San Francisco, and around the world. In fact, having a student ask me, “When am I going to ever use this?” is one of my favorite questions to answer.
I work with many age groups ranging from middle school to graduate students, with the peak of the bell curve being upperclassmen in high school and underclassmen in college. Some of my pupils are ‘A’ students who simply need a little help. Others are student athletes who need to maximize their limited study time to keep their grades. Still others are struggling students who are simply trying to keep up. Throughout the range, patience and persistence are virtues. This has allowed me to succeed with students diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, test anxiety, and other learning challenges as well.
My students have been accepted by such fine universities as Brown, Cal-Berkeley, Cal-Poly, Cambridge, Drexel, Georgetown, Harvard, Middlebury, MIT, Purdue, Santa Clara, St. Andrews, Stanford, Tulane, UCLA, Vanderbilt, & many, many others.
My wife Patty and I live in Emeryville, with our toddling daughter Hayden and recently born Daphne, where we often take advantage of the beautiful Emeryville Marina.
Please let me know if I can be of assistance.
