Hi my name is Kevin West! (Also in the photo my wife Emma!)
I am a professional composer, singer, and brass player trained in both classical and jazz music. I believe I have always had the soul of a composer, humming film scores as a six year old to my army men on my bedroom floor. In High School I excelled at the trombone, played in the Washington all-state Jazz Ensemble, competed at state solo and ensemble three consecutive years in a row, won numerous soloist awards at jazz competitions, culminating in winning outstanding trombone at the Jack Rudin Collegiate Jazz Championship in 2022 held at lincoln center, with the great Winton Marsalis himself presenting me the award.
I always knew however that performing wouldn't be enough for me. I wanted above all else to create music. I started writing my own songs, and producing songs for others, and wished for a time to be a full time producer before discovering my passion for composing. In JAnuary 2024 I was given the opportunity to score BYU animation's latest short film "Student Accomplice". The film has since gone on to win a student academy award at the 2024 student academies in London, it won gold at the AES student recording competition, and lastly my musical score was nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media award. I was so honored to be nominated alongside two Illumination films in my same category, and to be nominated alongside John Powell and Hans Zimmer who were nominated in the animated feature, and sci-fi film categories.
I am so grateful to have a career doing what I love most in the world!
