When it comes to meets, it's not just about the swimmers but about our parents, too! We cannot hold meets without the help of our parent volunteers. We NEED you! It is a requirement that all families volunteer for at least two meets in addition to our mock meet. We will also be assigned volunteer positions that we must fill for the championship meets, so please be ready to step up to help at those as well!
The following are the positions needed at all meets. Please see a board member if you are interested in training for a position that requires it.
Timer (6) - Number needed depends on the number of lanes in the pool. Each lane will have one timer from each team. Use stopwatch to start when the starter begins the race and end when swimmer touches the wall after completing all laps. Record swimmer name, lane, event, place (from place judges) and times from both stopwatches on timer card.
Backup Timer (1) - One backup timer from each team. Starts watch with start of the race. In the event a lane timer was unable to start on time or a watch malfunctions, the backup timer will step in or trade watches to get an accurate time of the race.
Place Judge (3) - Three place judges per team. One judge per team is assigned a place (1st, 2nd, 3rd). Watch the race and hold up card indicating the lane that finished in that place. This is used in close races to confirm times and place finishes.
Runner (1) - Home meets only. Will collect time cards from timers and DQ slips from officials and deliver to the scoring table.
Stroke and Turn Official (3) - Requires training. Observe races for legal strokes. Complete DQ card if swimmer does not complete a race legally.
Starter/Referee (1) - Requires training. Home meets only. Start races and observe starts for legality. Sign off on DQ's
Computer Operator (1) - Requires training. Home meets only. Run Meet Manager and input times and DQ's. Ensure proper scoring of meet.
Scoring Table Assistant (1) - Order time cards received from runner, assist with inputting times.
Zoo Keeper (2) - Find and line kids up for events. One Zoo Keeper typically stays near the blocks to line kids up for the events while the other finds the kids in the team area.
Volunteer Aid (1) - Home meets only. Be on standby to fill in for any volunteer that may need to take a break. Help in any other capacity as needed.
50/50 Raffle Sales (2) - Home meets only. Walk around crowd selling 50/50 raffle tickets.
