Merchant meets the wise wolf: Its been a long time since I first watched spice and wolf, and this is a reboot. If you've never seen it before now's the time. Holo is still as lovely as always. Sadly it seems the apple ed song is missing, but it might be in episode two. Scheduled for 25 episodes it should be a good time. 7/10.
Lonely young man lives alone, until one morning he finds an angel, sent by god to learn about humans, on his balcony. The animation is fluid, but one thing to note is that the art style does the eyes a bit weird which might be off-putting to some people. The angel is named Towa lol (TMT). Also warning the first few minutes has flashbangs of fanservice, some in particular is creative lol. 7/10.
A man with the power to absorb the qualities of the things he eats gets killed in combat, and reincarnates in another world as a goblin. He retains his skill, but its effects were reset to zero. Through hunting he levels up to evolve and lead the other goblins. Animation is fine, nothing about it is really special. The evolution hook is interesting so at least there's a goal. Vaguely like slime isekai but not really. 5/10.
Gods were bored so they invited humans to play games. Players get given powers in the games, and if they win they can use them in the real world. If a human wins ten games, there's a "celebration", but that's never been done before. Animation is average, designs are generic, but the game elements make it interesting enough. Reminds me of Liar Liar from a few seasons ago. 5/10.
Magic fanatic was low born and was thus super weak, after getting killed by a noble he reincarnates as a prince. Now with all the mana in the world he's free to be a magic enthusiast. Despite not being tagged as ecchi, the show does have some questionable moments. The mc is an androgynous shota boy, and the art style is a bit unique, which could be off putting for some, but I found the first episode decently fun. 6/10.
I had my eye on this as a hidden gem and it didn't disappoint! Japan unveiled 7G tech that went terribly wrong. The whole country got devastated, and when people turn 21 they transform into animals. Four girls in a small town have been looking for their friend for two years, when they see a picture of her in the newspaper. They get aboard a train to Ikebukuro to find their lost friend, and solve the 7G disaster. The animation is super charming, the voice actors are top notch, the concept creative. This is gona be a banger. 8/10.
Former hero saves the world and gets reincarnated. In his next left he wishes to not be feared, and be able free to do what he wants. On his search for peace he takes a detour to help some friends with his power. The animation, music, voice acting, plot, and basically everything else are very mid. It does get bonus points for including monsters that aren't cgi. Generic trash fantasy. 4/10.
Man dies and reincarnates as a nobles son. The gimmick is that he can see peoples stats. Animation, voice acting, story, pacing, all is exceptionally poor. A child might enjoy it more. 2/10.
Merchant from a fantasy world gets summoned to another to be their hero, but he doesn't have special powers. After being exiled he levels up once and gets infinite stats. Typical fantasy with video game elements. Quality wise everything is very average, but it leans closer to enjoyable trash then boring trash. 5/10.
Prince is cursed by a witch to never have a child, so he climbs a tower to have the witch at the top break the curse. She can't do it, but says its still possible for him to have kids if his wife is strong enough to resist his curse. So naturally he asks her to be his wife. Animation is nothing special but looks good enough for what it is, the premise seems really cute, and the two have good chemistry. Its a kadokawa series, and a fantasy romance. Both are a big plus. 7/10.
A girl has given up on her dreams, rejected the things she loved due to ridicule. She resigned herself to fitting in and being normal. Until she met a failed idol on the streets at night, who said she really loved her art. An inspiring story and the feeling of freedom, paired with aesthetic imagery. Despite it not being in the tags anywhere, this might be a music anime? Figured I'd put the disclaimer incase it turns into one. I thought this could be a hidden gem, and I wasn't disappointed. 8/10.
A powerful sorcerer doesn't care for love, until he sees a beautiful elf girl at an auction. She's prepared to die, and he doesn't know how to talk to her. The voice acting is great, animation and designs look good, even the ed sounds nice. Warning there is a panty shot. I had my eye on this before it aired, and it looks like it has a lot of potential. A nice fantasy romance. 7/10.
A guy wants to devote all his love to a soulmate, and a girl who doesn't think she'll ever be able to fall in love. He asks her out, she's confused, but figures she could give it a try. The art style is soft, and the VA is nice. The guy comes off as a bit weird, but its not terrible. Its definitely a shoujo romance, but seems like it might have some drama too. 6/10.
Princess and her knight flee from their world through a portal to modern day japan. The princess keeps her magic and gets taken in by a private detective. She helps him with his work. Its very much not a serious show, its more like a comedy slice of life. Nothing really impressed me, but apparently the author is decently well known. Detective Conan cameo. 5/10.
Another season I forgot to write one retroactively.
Legendary hitman did too many kills in a year and has to lay low for a while. Him and his assistant have to reintegrate into society and act like normal people. I'll be honest I wasn't expecting much, but this was really refreshing. Its based on a highly rated manga and has adult themes and art-style. Action, comedy, seinen. If you're looking for a mature story highly recommend. The ed was also fun. 8/10.
This is a remake of a series from 06. Its a gourmet anime about a legendary bartender who makes the perfect drinks specialized for each customer. Animation and ost are both nice, and the first episode was great. I heard the original series was episodic so if you're into that. If you have an interest in mixology you will enjoy. 7/10.
Peak archive is real. This was made for me. Seeming to follow the events of volume one of the story, I know we're going to be in for a fun time. I was very satisfied with what we've got so far. I hope we get more seasons, I would kill to see the eden treaty or volume F animated. 8/10.
Nothing says fantasy more then home ownership (with your cute wife). Mushoku Tensei returns and its as goated as ever. I feel like I don't need to write much, its one of the greatest series of all time, you should know by now. 9/10.
Grandpa and Grandma have been married for 60 years but were poor most of the time and couldn't do the things they wanted. They find a golden apple on the tree they planted to celebrate their marriage and turn young again. It has a really chill style, and is a very unique type of romance. Its very wholesome and feels good, although I wonder how they're going to make a full season of content out of it. 5/10.
A boy who is loved by no one has disgusting tasting blood. A vampire needs to find a boy to be his thrall in order to succeed his father as ruler. Just so happens to be that you can make someone's blood taste better by loving them. Oh yeah turns out the boy was actually a girl in a wig. This is a vampire, shojou, school romance. In other words lets fucking go boys I'm so hyped. Art is very typical shojou. 6/10.
A former gifted writer now 28 and normal working at a bookstore with a weirdo dude. She gets given an unusual book and supernatural events occur. Really interesting sound design, dialogue, colours, and an older animation style. It has an ecchi tag but its more so general adult content, including horror-esque elements. I was fully enthralled, might be a gem. 8/10.
The blue haired childhood friend wins. Basically a family of spies each with their own gimmick. One is a sis con and was trying to kill his sisters friend, so he married into the family for protection. It looks good visually, will probably turn into just some standard shounen action shlop. Scheduled for 27 episodes for some reason. 6/10.
Everyone's a youtuber making big money, broke loser is taken advantage of. He fights another loser on camera and makes money, decides to keep doing it. Animation is fine but its just generic manwha style. Series about youtubers are beyond cringe, mc is also a walking L. 4/10.
Character designs taken straight from SNAFU lol. New student sees ones of her senpais singing at her entrance ceremony. She confesses that she fell in love at first sight, meaning she loved her singing. The senpai misinterpreted at first, but came to realize that she actually did fall in love at first sight. So the two are friends and the senpai is trying to figure out how to ask her junior out. The animation and art is really pretty, the music is good too. A lot of yuri romance relationships are super toxic, but thankfully this one seems like an outlier. 7/10.
There's so much Kurumi content in episode one, I actually won. We are so back. 8/10.
Imagine SAO and Overlord had a baby. You can't log out of the vrmmo until it's beaten, and if you die in the game you die in real life. The mc beats the game and everyone logs out, and then he's transported 500 years in the games future and all the npcs are sentient. I'm a sucker for both those series and their tropes so I genuinely enjoyed it. The animation definitely isn't great which nocks points off, and it's not a very original story. 5/10.
Two voice actress idols are classmates and host a radio show together. The twist is that of course their personas are fakes, and their real selves hate each other. That is until you see the girls love tag. Animation and dialogue are both average, the plot is okay i guess? but its hard to stomach so much fakeness, even as someone who knows about voice actor radio and the jp idol industry. 5/10.
In a world where Kaiju attacks are semi-common, there's a Kaiju defense force tasked to take them down. A man trying to join the force was relegated to clean up duty instead, giving up on his dream of joining the defense force. Until after a Kaiju attack, he transforms into a Kaiju. I'm a fan of this. Seems to have serious world building, character motivations, plot direction, music and an interesting style. I've heard that the manga falls off a lot later, but hopefully this first season stays strong until the end. 8/10.
They've lost the plot, and the long break didn't help. Luckily this seems to be a return to form for the series. 7/10.
I was not very impressed with the last demon slayer arc. Pacing was terrible, content boring, and somehow ufotable used bad cgi. This season starts with an hour long episode that did everything it needed to do. Recapped the current affairs, set up the next act, and made it all entertaining. Animation was back where it needed to be, so this season is looking to be a great bounce back to form. 8/10.
Mc was looked down on all his life, so he turned to fighting other people, since at least when he beats them it means hes better. He moves to a town known for street gang fighting and aims for the top. Except things changed, and now the thugs at his school protect the people of the town. The action in this was actually really good, and 2D. OST was also really nice, as was the art style. If you want fights this is it. 7/10.
Another season of everyone's favorite isekai. I was never a big fan as the jokes just didn't really land for me, but that's personal preference. Animation is good as always, and we got lots of Megumin content already so that's a good sign. I still stand by the fact that she's the only compelling character in the show. 7/10.
A super sentai themed anime, but with a twist. The monsters were defeated years ago, and surrendered. The terms were that they would continue to attack earth every Sunday. That's right baby capitalism time. The rangers endorse products, the monsters' act and always lose, live TV every Sunday. Until one of the monsters had enough and decides to try joining the rangers. Good animation, and a very unique premise. There are some spots of light cgi occasionally, but it doesn't necessarily look bad. A cool extra is that during the ending credits they show wip animation frames for some action shots. And after credits have an irl puppet introduce next weeks episode. Really promising overall 7/10.
Its a mythical court drama with ancient Chinese aesthetics. The actual art style used in the anime resembles an older one which works perfectly for the theme and setting. The second son is named heir to be the golden raven, and the four great houses sent their daughters to deceptively fight to be his concubine. 3 nobles and one country bumpkin are sent. Its a supernatural, action, drama, seinen. So its tone and pacing are a bit slower, but its scheduled for 20 episodes so the build will likely pay off. This might be a gem. 8/10.
