PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Height: 5'4" / 164.56cm
Build: Athletic and strong, yet there is a petite elegance about Vaughan that makes him appear misleadingly assailable. His wrists, ankles, and long, bony fingers attest the finery of his meager 5'4” frame.
Eyes: Large, amber brown and deep-set, with heavy lids commonly smeared in a dark pigment comprised of a mixture of soot and oil.
Hair: Dirty blonde, long and thick, yet finely textured. Most often pulled away from his face in a complex series of decorative braids, particularly while on the road.
Distinguishing Marks: A multitude of scars, most predominantly a large burn marring his right cheek acquired during a confrontation with a fire mage. Twin gashes run from his right brow to the center of his forehead and into his hairline, from where the hairs grow silver. His census ID is tattooed on the inside of his left forearm.
Distinguishing Features: Has slightly flared teeth, and unusually prominent lower canines.

HISTORY
Vaughan's story is not one of great personal calamity, but the result of a mean streak that festered and grew in an environment ill-equipped to nourish his virtues. He started life amidst a small fishing village situated on the western coast of the main continent, born to a poorly dockhand and his wife. It was an existence that left him wanting, and he quickly grew to despise it.
Unwilling to follow in his parent's example - despondent common folk bound by their roots to a destitute township left to rot at edge of the world - at the tender age of 12 he fled, along with the entirety of his poorly parent's worth; an aged grey mare, his father's bow, and a fistful of family heirlooms. The mare carried him to Eclein, where she was sold to a band of troupers for a paltry sum, and thereafter Vaughan turned to thievery as means for survival.
Poor, hopelessly illiterate and capable only of speaking the Western tongue endemic of his small township. But he was smart and resourceful, and for eight months he survived on the streets, a petty but successful thief squirrelling away precious trinkets and valyut purses in his little cache. He was caught thrice in the act, and still bears the scars scored across his back. The third time he was incarcerated, having just turned thirteen, and offered bail by a stranger - a merchant man he came to know as Rufus Veltman.
Rufus took Vaughan in as something of a protégé. He was educated and fed, and taught to wield a weapon as well as any of the local guards. By the time Vaughan was sixteen he was a practiced thief, and had made the merchant a humble fortune in illegal appropriation. Come eighteen, he was also a vicious killer.
For seven years their accord was mutually advantageous, until the day Vaughan decided the old Merchant had no more to teach him. Vaughan left Eclein with a small fortune stashed in his saddlebags, and blood on his hands.

Borjigin Zahkar ◉✘ - Father
Borjigin was first a fisherman, then a gambling man, and later a disconsolate drunk quashed beneath a lode of debt. He was not typically violent, but his callous neglect was equally unjust. Though Vaughan has no idea and wouldn’t care in the least were he to be told, six months after he left home, Borjigin passed away in a boat accident.Katarina Akzhurek nee Danat (formally Zahkar) ◉◐ - Mother
Katarina wanted to be a good mother for her son, but her time was so consumed by scrounging for the financial support her family desperately needed - most of which was squandered on Borjigin's drinking and gambling habits - that there were days she wouldn’t even lay eyes on him. Shortly after Borjigin's death Katarina remarried, her new husband also a fisherman though of considerably more favor, and together they’ve had two daughters; neither of whom Vaughan has ever met.Nurzhan Akzhurek ◉ - Half-Sister
