Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Kunye (Kevin) Wu, and I'm originally from Chengdu, China, home to the awesome pandas! At twelve, I came to the U.S. to pursue my educational journey, and today, I am a senior at Pingree School. I'm proud to be part of a community where its education emphasizes the idea of "We see you." where every student is seen and supported. Whether in the classroom, on the field, on the stage, or in the hallways, I feel seen and accepted, which has not only boosted my confidence but has also allowed me to see others, to recognize their values and needs, and respond with genuine care.
Being an international student has given me a unique perspective on adaptability and perseverance. Despite the transition to living in the U.S. wasn't all that easy at first, I soon found my place and went from navigating the unfamiliar territory to building lifelong friendships, excelling in academics, and embracing all the opportunities my new home had to offer. Behind every one of these transformations was not only my own hard work but also the unwavering support of my family.
Family has always been my strongest backbone, and I'm fortunate to have grown up in an environment centered around love, respect, and encouragement. Dad's talent and passion inspire me to pursue my dreams fearlessly, while mom's wholehearted dedication and wisdom remind me to care deeply for the people around me and to stay humble through every success. Since I was six, I often joined mom in her charity work for happiness education, and witnessing the genuine smiles of those we helped taught me that true happiness lies in giving with a selfless heart.
Inspired by my family's values, I developed a love for reading classic works from a young age. Immersing myself in the thoughts and teachings of ancient sages, philosophers, and scientists has given me new dimensions to understand life. I draw inspiration from the brilliant minds of the past, whose insights continue to shape my worldview and actions. I am also passionate about the music and art. I find music to be a powerful channel to connect with the universe that uplifts my mindset and emotions. From classical symphonies to country music to Chinese opera. I find inspiration in every genre. Meanwhile, after completing my schoolwork, I often unwind through drawing, a hobby that fuels my imagination and brings satisfaction before bed. Additionally, I love to explore human history and innovation through museums, from the timeless wisdom of the Axial Age to the rise and fall of empires across continents, from the courageous Rome empire to the grandeur of the Tang dynasty to the global interconnectedness of the digital age. Whether at the Palace Museum in China or the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Boston Museum of Science or the Harvard Museum of Natural History, I am captivated by humanity's remarkable journey, from our distant past to the age of artificial intelligence. Through these explorations, I've gained a deeper appreciation of both the brilliance and fragility of our civilization.
Academically, I have always loved STEM, particularly Applied Mathematics and Economics, as I see both disciplines as powerful tools for making real impact on the world. Mathematics has fascinated me since I was a child. What I found most exciting about the subject is how something so abstract can manifest itself in the world around us. For instance, the towering skyscrapers that define a city's skyline essentially begin with a series of mathematical functions, and those carefully calculated equations give birth to their architecture and engineering. From the simplest combinations of digits 0 to 9, that can create infinite possibilities of whole numbers, to algebraic formulas that help us model everything from the curves of a rollercoaster to the flight path of a rocket. Functions, for example, aren't just weird symbols that can form a graph, but the language we use to predict how population will grow, how economies will evolve, and even how to optimize traffic flow in bustling cities. When we hold a soda can, Calculus ensures that it's designed with the least amount of material to hold the maximum volume. Linear algebra stretches my mind even further to interpret spaces and dimensions beyond what we can physically see. For me, math isn't just a subject, it's the foundation of understanding the universe, a courage to explore the unknown. I'm inspired by the mathematicians throughout history whose groundbreaking theories still shape our world today. Like them, I hope to use mathematics to build a better, more efficient, and more compassionate world.
My passion for STEM has also made me a skilled VEX robotics engineer. From designing to building to programming to finally driving our robot on competition fields, the process helped me discover the various ways STEM can be applied to make a real world impact. Aside from the intellectual side of me, I'm also an athlete: a captain of the varsity rowing team, a power forward on the basketball team, and passionate Gym-Goer.
In all these experiences, I've found that the most rewarding part is the continuous growth that comes from giving my best with humility. Each obstacle teaches me something new about myself and my potential, and I’ve come to realize that the most meaningful achievements aren’t just about personal success, but also about lifting others up along the way. That's why I enjoy working and sharing with others, whether it's in the math team, student government, or through my summer work and five years of community service. All of which you can find on this website!
As I look forward to my college journey, I am filled with excitement and hope. I am eager to meet my best self in a diverse and intellectually flourishing environment and becoming a positive addition to my future college community.
Thank you for visiting, I hope you enjoy exploring my journey!
