Math 444: Elementary Real Analysis (Fall 2023)

Collaborative Office Hours: Tuesdays 3:30-4:20 pm in 1066 Lincoln Hall and Wednesdays 3:30-4:20 pm in 1022 Lincoln Hall. You are encouraged to come often as you like and discuss course material, homework questions, and so on, with me and other students.


Moodle: Students can check the Moodle course page for most of the course information. This includes lecture notes, homework assignments/solutions, exam dates, and other details.


Course contents: This course is a careful treatment of the theoretical aspects of the calculus of functions of a real variable intended for those who do not plan to take graduate courses in Mathematics. We will cover topics like the real number system, limits, continuity, derivatives, and the Riemann integral. Here is the official syllabus.


Textbook: R. B. Bartle and D. R. Sherbert, Introduction to Real Analysis, 4th Edition, John Wiley and Sons.


Assignments: There will be weekly homework assignments. Check Moodle for details.


Exams: There will be two midterm exams and a final exam. The midterm will take place in class. For more information, check Moodle.
