Mohit Kumar
Hello! I’m Mohit Kumar, originally from Uttar Pradesh, India. I earned both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from Uttar Pradesh Technical University and the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT Varanasi). My Ph.D. and post Ph.D. research were also conducted at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), and IIT Varanasi, focusing on the thermos-catalytic conversion of lignocellulosic biomass and kinetic modeling. My work has spanned areas including adsorbent synthesis for CO2 capture, biochar and hydrochar for environmental applications, molten metal catalysts, hydrogen production, and carbon dot synthesis and applications.
Currently, I’m a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Chemical Engineering at SUNY ESF, working with Dr. Deepak Kumar. My research here involves process modeling, simulation, optimization, and techno-economic analysis (TEA) of biochemical and thermochemical conversion processes. Outside of research, I enjoy reading fiction, love traveling, and have a passion for playing lawn tennis.
Research Interests: Techno-economic analysis (TEA), hydrothermal processes, biochemical processes, pyrolysis, hydrogen production, carbon capture, and heterogeneous catalysis.

Md Shahadat Hossain
Ph.D. Student
I’m Md Shahadat Hossain (call me Shahadat) from Bangladesh. I did my Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science from SUST, Bangladesh. Then I went to the University of Manchester, UK with Equity and Merit Scholarship for master’s study in Advanced Chemical Engineering.
Now, I have started my Ph.D. in Bioprocess Engineering with Dr. Kumar from Fall 2021. My research interest widely includes waste biomass processing for biofuels and value-added chemicals coproduction. Currently, I’m working on production of bioplastics and biofuel from forest residues.
Before joining the Ph.D. program, I was teaching in SUST, Bangladesh, and wish to join them again to work more actively with the young, enthusiastic, and brilliant minds. For any further queries and collaborations, you can send me an email (mhossain2@esf.edu) or text me at +1(315)5603715.
Stay blessed and take care!!

Anindita Paul
Ph.D. Student
Hello ! My name is Anindita Paul or Annie as my friends like to call me . I hail from Bengal , India where I have obtained my undergraduate degree in Biotechnology and postgraduate degree in Environmental Biotechnology in Kolkata. My Ph.D. research passions lie in sustainable reclamation of value-added compounds in biomass and waste through remediation , biochemical and bioprocess techniques.
Having a huge appetite in general , I love to eat and help others eat delicious food through cooking, voraciously read poetry , manga and articles by talented people all around me. I can be seen dancing to funky tunes , singing my heart out , conversing with people and enjoying periodic bouts of random art and being in the lap of Nature.
Gundeep Kaur
Ph.D. Student
Hi! My name is Gundeep Kaur and I am a Ph.D. student. I did my bachelors in Agricultural Engineering and masters in Processing and Food Engineering from Punjab Agricultural University, Punjab, India. My research interests include high-value bioproducts production from agro-food processing waste – an approach towards circular bioeconomy.
I like to listen to music and love to explore nature. I like to sing and dance and spend time with my friends. Meeting new people and exchanging different experiences is something I am always up for.
