After teaching in the department of English, University of Delhi for a decade, I have dedicated myself fulltime to theatre & performing arts. 

Created Atelier Theatre in 2004 and Meraki Creative Residency in 2015, the artistic journey continues...

Known for his diverse performances in films/web shows like Margarita With A Straw (Shonali Bose; 2015); Breathe Into The Shadows (Amazon Prime; 2020); Aspirants (TVF; 2021); Sardar Udham (Shoojit Sircar; 2021); Ranj (Sunit Sinha; 2022) and upcoming Trial By Fire (Netflix; 2022), Kuljeet is the founder & Creative Director of Atelier Theatre (2004), a Delhi based theatre company. He also appeared in brand endorsement commercials including IPL (2020), Maruti Suzuki (2018) & Hero Motocorp (2012). After teaching for a decade (2007-17) in the department of English, University of Delhi, he has dedicated himself full time to theatre & performing arts. His M. Phil dissertation thesis is on the history of theatre on the campus of the University of Delhi since 1924 from the works of St. Stephen’s The Shakespeare Society. He is presently working on his doctoral thesis, which is a continuation of the study on Campus Theatre.

Recipient of Junior fellowship in Theatre (Ministry of Culture, GOI), YUVA Puruskar (Sahitya Kala Parishad, Government of Delhi) and YCE – Young Creative Entrepreneur Award (British Council, India), Kuljeet has written, acted, adapted, directed and produced more than forty full length productions for Atelier Repertory Company: Goodbye Blue Sky, Barrie Keeffe’ SUS, Jean Anouilh’s Antigone, Manu Bhandari’s Mahabhoj, Neil Simon’s Laughter On The 23rd Floor & Rumors (adapted as “Khusar Phusar”), Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story, Fritz Karinthy’s Refund; Badal Sircar’s Baaki Itihas and Saari Raat; Ramu Ramanathan’s Collaborators; Degho Tegho Fateh; Dastan-E-Punjab; Kuchh Afsaney; Project Antigone; Prithvi; Short Circuit; Dastan-E-Guru Nanak; Seekh Kabab; Chaar Chullh; Bohot Bada Sawaal; Nafrat Ke Teen Sawaal; Aashaad ka Ek Dinn; Perfect Wedding, to name the major ones. While Goodbye Blue Sky was awarded Best Play by Sahitya Kala Parishad in 2006, Kuljeet performed Khusar Phusar on the occasion of YUVA Puruskar Samman by Delhi Government in 2012 at Sriram Centre. At present, with Atelier Repertory Company, Kuljeet has been travelling nationally and internationally. He is also an official Indian representative to World Fringe Congress and attended the same in February 2020 at Adelaide, Australia. 

Kuljeet has also directed a dozen productions for college students and more than 50 theatre plays for different schools in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. He is a faculty in Theatre and Dramatic Arts with schools of repute and is instrumental in developing methodologies of teaching using elements of drama in the classroom. His flagship programme - LEARNING THROUGH THEATRE – is extremely popular in various schools.

Kuljeet has curated twelve seasons of ACT, world’s largest Campus Theatre festival by Atelier Theatre successfully. These theatre festivals are meticulously designed to foster theatre activities in the Campus of the University of Delhi.  Since 2007, with 12 seasons now, this festival has invited more than 500 performances from different college groups nationally and internationally, each photographed and documented. Moreover, Kuljeet is the sole resource who has collected, collated, catalogued Campus Theatre Tradition in the last decade.

His brainchild Performing Series is an annual feature of Atelier Theatre, which looks at the works of Indian authors/playwrights in entirety. After Performing Series on Tagore in 2011, and Badal Sircar in 2012 (performed Baaki Itihas & Saari Raat in August 2012), Atelier Repertory completed a series on the works of Ramu Ramanathan in 2013 and is gearing up for series on Habib Tanvir.

Of late he directed Project Antigone & Kujh Afsaney in Punjabi and plans to create a corpus of substantial work in Punjabi language. After editing a student edition on Shudrak’s Mrichhakatikam for the undergraduate honors students of English Literature, he is working on a book entitled From Page To Stage; compiling a collection of poems entitled Then & When along with Heer Shakespeer, a 360 degree project to be developed by Atelier Repertory Company.

Jaita, Sidhartha, Chaar Chullh, Dillinaamah & 292 are the set of stories he has written for screen and wishes to develop them further.
