35,000 nautical miles sailing experience: Puget Sound, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Panama Canal, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Maine, Florida
A transplant from the coast of Maine, Jim purchased his first boat in Seattle in 1984, and has had four others since then. His previous boat, KULA, he lived on and cruised throughout Puget Sound, B.C., Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Eventually heading to Fort Lauderdale, selling KULA, and landing a job on a sailboat in the Mediterranean. Jim has taken a number of trips down the Pacific Coast and through the Panama Canal. To his chagrin, he has also weathered three hurricanes...catch him when he's not working, and he'll be happy to recount many a sea story.
Jim has retired his 50 ton Master's License to focus on surveying.
In the last 30 years in the marine industry, Jim has had the good fortune to be trained by riggers, electricians, painters, and mechanics, and has worked, captained, and crewed on a variety of sail and power vessels up to 105'.
Jim graduated summa cum laude from the Chapman School of Seamanship in Yacht and Small Craft Surveying. He is a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors and is ABYC Standard Certified.
