Research field
I am conducting ongoing research to elucidate the relationships between human decision-making and ecosystem services by quantifying and deriving values from diverse ecosystem services derived from landscapes. As a lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES),
I am aware of the international landscape in the field of ecosystem services and conduct diverse research through a broader network. IPBES reports I have participated in to date include the Land Degradation and Restoration assessment, the Values assessment, and the Business and Biodiversity assessment.

We develop scenarios as a research method to understand the present and plan for the future, and conduct research to predict future changes in land use and biological assets. To support this, we utilize various model simulation tools. In particular, we strive to construct more plausible scenarios by developing and verifying scenarios that reflect national policy directions and international circumstances.

We are developing and quantifying various indicators for cultural services, which are difficult to map, to understand the relationships between them. We utilized various data sources, including social media data. We classified social media photos using AI and compared them with biodiversity indicators to elucidate the relationship between human cultural use and biodiversity.
