Classic mid-century film noir, but so much more! Featuring great performances by some of the era's top character actors (that seem strangely contemporary), and an avant-garde narrative structure barely seen again until the 1990's (e.g. Pulp Fiction). The Killing got Kubrick noticed by bigger names that would lead him to his first universally-considered masterpiece, Paths of Glory starring Kirk Douglas.
