c. 1955, B&W Feature Film, USA, 67min
Kubrick's second feature film produced on a low but doable budget, is a great example of classic film noir. The dialogue was dubbed after principal photography so he didn't have to worry about the microphone position while shooting and could save money during principal photography. Post-dubbing all sound, including the actor dialogue, gives a sense of listening to a radio play - a double whammy when the two forms are joined (visuals and audio). Brilliant in hindsight, and it works just fine to this day! NOTE: Kubrick preferred Killer's Kiss be considered as his first fictional feature film due to his dislike of his first feature, Fear and Desire(released 1953), which has since become a cult favorite.
