We study inheritance phenomena in plant species and specially focus on one of the essential crops, wheat and its wild relatives.
Kyoto university maintains precious genetic resource of wheat and its wild relatives. However, difficulties of applications prevent the usage of genetic resource. We try to overcome the difficulties by understanding genetic mechanisms and developing new technologies.
We study "interactions" that includes genome-genome interaction in polyploid species and biotic interaction such as plant-microbe interaction.
Wild relatives show various and interesting traits, which has not been fully utilized in plant breeding. We study how such traits evolved and develop applications to introduce traits of wild relatives to cultivars.
