  • 2024/06: Dr. Juan Salvador Tafoya Vargas (UC Davis) gave a seminar talk about the FORMOSA experiment.

  • 2024/05: We had the Kickoff meeting for SUBMET at J-PARC!

  • 2024/05: Dr. Jaebak Kim (UCSB) gave a seminar about his recent work on AI in particle physics.

  • 2024/05: Installation of SUBMET detector has finished!

  • 2024/04: Our detector components have arrived in J-PARC in one piece.

  • 2024/04: 5 talks from our group at the 2024 Spring KPS Meeting! Insung (Installation plan for SUBMET),  Hyunki (Readout system of SUBMET ), Hoyong (Full system test of SUBMET detector), Jae (Calibration of SPEs for SUBMET), and Haeyun (Improvement on local position estimation for BTL).  Good job, everyone!

  • 2024/04: Fully assembled SUBMET detector can “see” cosmic muons! Great job, everyone!

  • 2024/04: Jeong Hwa (current UCSB grad student, former group member) gave a talk about the Status of the LZ experiment.

  • 2024/01: Hyunki, Hoyong, Insung, and Jae installed the tables and racks in preparation for the installation of the SUBMET detector. Great work!

  • 2024/01: Yongjun, Hyungseok, and Gayoen joined our lab as winter interns. Welcome!

  • 2023/12: Hyunki, Insung, and Jae visited LANCSE at LANL to measure the background rate. 

  • 2023/11:  Jayashri received the Excellent Presentation Award (우수발표상) for her presentation at the 2023 Fall KPS Meeting.  Congrats!  

  • 2023/11: Jae gave a talk about the status of SUBMET at the University of Washington and UC Santa Barbara.

  • 2023/10: 3 talks and 1 poster from our group at the 2023 Fall KPS Meeting! Insung (Poster on event generation for mCP search at Fermilab), Jayashri (Local reconstruction algorithms for HCAL),  and Dr. Hyunki Moon (two talks - status of SUBMET ; Module construction and tests for SUBMET ). Good job everyone!

  • 2023/09: The CMS 4top paper is published in PLB! We contributed to the all-hadronic channel in collaboration with Prof. Suyong Choi's group at KU and Prof. Joe Incandella's group at UCSB. 

  • 2023/08: Chang Hwan and Seokju are leaving us for grad school in the US. Thanks very much for your contributions to the lab so far.  Best of luck at our next step! 

  • 2023/08: Pheono paper about aTGC in VBF DY process  with Prof. Son's group at KAIST is published in JHEP!

  • 2023/07: Dr. KyungEon Choi (UT Austin) visited us to give a talk about H->tau tau at ATLAS.

  • 2023/07: Hoyong gave a talk about the status of SUBMET at the Lepton Photon 2023. It is one of the major conferences in our particle physics community. Great job!

  • 2023/07: Minwoo, Laura, and Jinseok joined our lab as summer intern. Welcome!

  • 2023/06: SUBMET (E83) received Stage-2 (the final) approval from J-PARC! This is a significant milestone for the experiment. Big congrats everyone! 

  • 2023/06: Jae gave a talk about the status of SUBMET at the DUNE Phase II Near Detector Workshop and the LLP13 workshop.

  • 2023/06: Changhyun gave a talk about SUBMET at PPC 2023 in Daejeon. Nice job!

  • 2023/05:  Byeong Jin and Hoyong received Excellent Presentation Awards (우수발표상) for their presentations at the 2023 Spring KPS Meeting.  Congrats!  

  • 2023/05: Prof. Jaehun Yu (UT Arlington) visited us to give a talk about DAMSA.

  • 2023/05: Dr. Jaebak Kim (UCSB) visited our lab to give a talk about the ODMB project in CMS.

  • 2023/05: KNU postdoc and students visited our lab to learn about the TCT system.

  • 2023/04: 3 talks and 2 posters from our group at the 2023 Spring KPS Meeting! Byeong Jin (LGAD testing in Korea), Seokju (Background study for SUBMET), Hoyong (Status of SUBMET ), Haeyun (BDT analysis for VBF DY process), and Changhyun (ABE algorithm for SUBMET). Good job everyone!

  • 2023/03: Insung is back from his military service. Welcome back! 

  • 2023/02: Byeong Jin, Haeyun, and Jae visited CERN/INFN Torino for MTD LGAD tests. 

  • 2023/01: Jae gave a talk at the 35th J-PARC PAC meeting to request Stage-2 approval for SUBMET.

  • 2022/12: We submitted a TDR  for SUBMET and Jae gave a talk at the FIFC meeting at J-PARC. 

  • 2022/11: We visited J-PARC with a few boxes of scintillators to measure the background rates at the detector site.  There were some difficulties, but overall the measurement was quite successful.

  • 2022/10: 3 talks and 1 poster from our group at the 2022 Fall KPS Meeting! Byeong Jin (LGAD testing in Korea), Seokju (SUBMET monitoring system), Hoyong (SUBMET mechanics ), and Haeyun (HCAL pedestal). Good job everyone!

  • 2022/4: SUBMET received stage-I status from IPNS! The next step is writing a TDR to get stage-II approval!

  • 2021/11: Jae gave a talk about SUBMET at the 10th workshop of the LLP community.

  • 2021/10: Jayashri (LGAD testing @KU), Byeong Jin (RPV SUSY), and Jae (SUBMET) presented our work at the 2021 Fall KPS Meeting. Jeong Hwa also gave a talk about a ML-based background estimation technique (with Prof. Suyong Choi). Great job! 

  • 2021/08: Observed the first signal from an LGAD sensor at KU!

  • 2021/07: We welcome 6 undergrad interns for this summer!  

  • 2021/07: We submitted a proposal (SUBMET) for the 32nd J-PARC PAC meeting. 

  • 2021/07: Jae gave a talk on SUBMET at KEK/IPNS.   

  • 2021/06: Chang Whan successfully defended his master's thesis. Congrats!

  • 2021/06: Our group (with Prof. Eunil Won , Suyong Choi, and Dr. Sungwoong Cho at KU) will be supported by 기초연구실 (Basic Research Lab, BRL) program of the National Research Foundation for the next 3 years! The funding will be used for the construction and operation of the new experiment (SUBMET) to search for millicharged particles!   

  • 2021/05: Our paper "Search for sub-millicharged particles at J-PARC" is published in JHEP! 

  • 2021/04: Jae received 영운상 from KPS!

  • 2021/04: Jayashri (and Insung) presented our work on LGAD sensor testing at the 2021 Spring KPS Meeting. Great work!  

  • 2021/04: Our paper "Search for sub-millicharged particles at J-PARC" has been accepted by JHEP! Great work, Jeong Hwa and In Sung!

  • 2021/03: Byeong Jin joined our group as an Integrated PhD student. Welcome! 

  • 2021/02: Large Scanning TCT is now at KU and we can see a signal from the spaghetti diode!

  • 2021/01: We have moved to our new lab space (Asan Science Bldg 446).

  • 2020/12: Inseung Hwang joined our group as an undergrad researcher. Welcome! He is supported by Jinri scholarship (2020 winter).

  • 2020/12: Jayashri and Jeong Hwa received Excellent Presentation Awards (우수발표상) for their presentations at 2020 Fall KPS Meeting.  Congrats!

  • 2020/07: LOI for the millicharge experiment at J-PARC is on arXiv.

  • 2020/07: Chang Hwan (RPV SUSY) presented at 2020 Spring KPS Meeting. Great work!  

  • 2020/07: Dr. Philip Chang (UCSD) visited us and gave an interesting seminar on the observation of the tri-boson process in CMS.

  • 2020/03: We are supported by NRF through  신진연구 for 5 years.

  • 2020/03: We are now a Korea CMS member.

  • 2020/03: Jayashri joined our group as a PhD student. Welcome!

  • 2019/12: Jeong Hwa is supported by Jinri scholarship (2019 winter)
