Our chapter is dedicated to the memory of Jay G. Hirsch MD, Professor of Psychiatry at UICOM (pictured on right with Dr. Geraldine Fox) and board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, who believed in treating children within the context of their families, schools, and communities. He was the beloved mentor for hundreds of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Purpose: A structured mentoring program that links medical students with child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP) faculty to provide meaningful medical student exposure to the field, as well as to encourage interest in CAP as a potential career path.
The Core fellowship experience runs from January of the M1 year through December of the M2 year. Individualized experiences are designed by each student and their mentor based on interest and preference.
Fellows are assigned a long-term faculty mentor with whom they meet on a regular basis. Mentorship opportunities include: shadowing, discussing career opportunities, and joining a mentor’s research activity or starting your own
All medical students (MS1 through MS4) are invited to participate on a continued basis.
Established in 1993 through a capital grant from the Esther A. and Joseph Klingenstein Fund, the mission of KTGF is to encourage a meaningful, long-term contribution to the field of child and adolescent mental health, partly through the Klingenstein Medical Student Programs.
