Workshops
The purpose of KSO Coaches Workshop is two-fold.
First input is sought regarding any changes in how tournaments may be run. For example at the workshop in 2008, there was a discussion on allowing the regional event winners to participate in the state tournament.
Secondly, changes in particular events are discussed and an overview of any new events is given. (Each year about 25% of the events are rotated out and new events are brought in. Another 25% of the events will have significant changes. For example in Chem lab, the area of chemistry that is focused on may change.)
A workshop for new coaches is held just before the regular coaches workshop. This gives teachers new to Science Olympiad an opportunity to see how it is run in Kansas as well as giving them some pointers on how to get started putting together a team.
The Kansas Coaches Workshop is generally held on a Saturday in October at Wichita State University. Currently there is no charge for the workshop. Snacks and lunch are provided.
