Kansas Instructional Leaders Association
About KILA
The Kansas Instructional Leaders Association (KILA) is a professional association dedicated to supporting instructional leaders across Kansas. We are a proud affiliate of United School Administrators of Kansas (USA-Kansas)and serve as the statewide network for curriculum, instruction, and professional learning leadership.
Our membership includes:
Curriculum directors and coordinators
Building and district-level administrators
Instructional coaches and specialists
Superintendents serving dual roles in smaller districts
Higher education and partner organization representatives
KILA exists to strengthen instructional leadership at every level of the education system—because every district, regardless of size, deserves the expertise and vision to move learning forward.
Our PURPOSE
Instructional leaders in Kansas fill a wide range of roles, often without consistent support or mentorship. KILA is here to close that gap by providing:
Professional Learning – Intentional opportunities for growth, modeled after proven programs and tailored to curriculum and instruction.
Networking & Mentorship – A forum to connect with colleagues, share challenges, and learn from one another.
Resources & Advocacy – Access to tools, strategies, and KSDE guidance that leaders can bring back to their districts.
Recognition – Annual awards celebrating excellence in instructional leadership.
Kansas has outstanding associations for superintendents, principals, and other administrators—but instructional leadership has historically lacked sustained support. KILA was formed to fill that need.
Our work is guided by three commitments:
Developing Leaders – Preparing the next generation of instructional leaders through purposeful training and mentorship.
Strengthening Systems – Helping leaders build coherent processes that drive curriculum, instruction, and school improvement.
Elevating Instruction – Ensuring every Kansas student benefits from strong instructional leadership, regardless of district size or context.
KILA operates as part of USA-Kansas, which unites all administrator associations under one umbrella. This structure provides:
Shared access to resources, communications, and advocacy.
A representative voice on the USA-Kansas Board of Directors.
Opportunities to collaborate across administrative roles while keeping the focus on curriculum and instruction.
