Summer assignments for English Honors, Advanced Placement, and Comp101 2023
Summer assignments for all other English Classes 2023
It is expected that all students participate actively in class and arrive on time, in uniform, fully prepared. Answering questions when called upon, reading aloud, and engaging in any and all activities is expected. Cell phones will be collected every day. Failure to comply with class and school rules will negatively affect this portion of the grade.
All work done in class falls under this category. This can include independent reading, peer editing, group work, looking for information within the text, taking notes, etc. Homework is the other major part of this grade and can include finishing work begun in class, working on IXL skills, and doing practice assignments on Albert.io.
All essays, tests, reaction papers, and projects comprise this portion of students' grades. Major essays are done in 3 drafts (1st draft is edited by peers, 2nd draft is edited by teacher, 3rd draft is typed and receives the final grade). Tests can include vocabulary, short answer questions, and multi-paragraph essays. Projects will be discussed in detail at least a week before the due date.
*For the first marking period, the summer assignment will be its own category in the gradebook. The other sections will be modified accordingly to fit it in.
No matter what your abilities are when you begin the class, they will be increased.
As long as you try, I will help you pass the class.
Be honest, not only with me, but with yourself and those around you. Be proud of the work you turn in.
Take the knowledge I am trying to help you learn, and make the best of it. Don't squander this chance!
You will develop a deeper understanding of the world and yourself through the analysis of literature and society.
