Knowledge space theory (KST) is a 38-year-old mathematical theory initially developed by Jean-Claude Falmagne and Jean-Paul Doignon for the efficient assessment of knowledge and learning in human beings. It is characterized by a set-theoretical and non-numerical approach to the assessment. For many years, methods, procedures, and probabilistic models developed in KST were almost only applied to the assessment of knowledge in the educational field. In the last years, several researchers have produced generalizations and extensions of KST that allow, on the one hand, to connect this theory to other important ones (to mention a few: cognitive diagnostic models, formal concept analysis, fuzzy set theory, problem space theory) and, on the other hand, to widen its applications outside the educational field. The symposium is aimed at: (i) presenting the most recent KST-based theoretical and practical studies that show usefulness and malleability of KST; (ii) building a net of researchers and experts who work in KST and related frameworks; (iii) discussing on future projects and developments in the area.
