As a current linguistics research mentor volunteer for cohorts of low-income high school students and graduates, I provide research training to help them gain an edge in both domestic and international college applications.
In the past, I recruited four students from Notre Dame of Mabel University as research assistants for a linguistics project, where they gained research experience, completed an NIH seminar on human subjects research, and learned acoustic analysis using Praat.
At 17 years of age, while being a full-time college student, I was elected Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman of our town, with a population of over 60,000, serving from 2010 to 2013. Together with my seven council members and staff, we launched initiatives that provided services and training to local youth, including livelihood programs, scholarships, and sports activities. I am particularly proud of drafting and passing an updated ordinance for the town's scholarship program, which annually supported 320 low-income, academically motivated students. Our youth council's efforts in peace-building and empowerment gained recognition and were highlighted internationally.
I was misnamed as "Kenneth" although I had my name plate right in front of the interviewer. Oops.
