I am Kevin Samejon, a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I completed my PhD in Linguistics at Boston University, where I worked closely with Daniel Erker, who served as my advisor for my dissertation on sociolinguistic variation in the phonology of English spoken in the Philippines.
As a variationist sociolinguist, experimental linguist, and educator, I am interested in the study of English varieties in the US and the Philippines, post-colonial multilingual societies, and Philippine languages. My research combines fieldwork and laboratory methods to investigate social and linguistic variation as well as language contact phenomena, often in close collaboration with students and colleagues in the SoLaS Lab. Additionally, I am passionate about teaching and have been teaching in various capacity since 2014.
I am a native of the Philippines and received a public education from primary school through college before beginning my graduate studies abroad. While I enjoy my academic pursuits, I also value spending time with family and friends, attending live performances (such as theater, orchestras, and concerts), and exploring my new home: Omaha.
