I am Kevin Samejon, an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I completed my PhD in Linguistics at Boston University, where I worked closely with Daniel Erker, who served as my advisor for my dissertation on sociolinguistic variation in the phonology of English spoken in the Philippines.
As a variationist sociolinguist, experimental linguist, and educator, I am interested in the study of English varieties in the US and the Philippines, post-colonial multilingual societies, and Philippine languages. My research primarily employs fieldwork and laboratory methods to examine social, linguistic, and language contact phenomena in these areas. For some aspects of my work, I collaborate with scholars based in Denmark, Japan, and Slovakia. Additionally, I am passionate about teaching and have been teaching in various capacity since 2014.
I am a native of the Philippines and received a public education from primary school through college before beginning my graduate studies abroad. While I enjoy my academic pursuits, I also value spending time with family and friends, attending live performances (such as theater, orchestras, and concerts), and exploring my new home: Omaha.
