Yorktown Softball Hosts "Keeper of the Game Day" Dedicated to Pioneer League Athletes
April 24, 2026
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. — Yorktown High School Softball proudly hosted its inaugural Keeper of the Game Day, a special celebration dedicated to Yorktown’s Pioneer League athletes, bringing together players, families, and community members for an unforgettable afternoon centered on inclusion and the love of the game.
The event was organized by Yorktown High School junior pitcher Katelyn Brown as part of her K’s for Kids initiative, which supports opportunities for children and young adults with special needs and disabilities to experience sports in meaningful ways.
The day began with smiles and excitement as Pioneer League athletes joined Yorktown players on the field for pre-game activities, including playing catch and hitting off a tee. Each participant was introduced during a special on-field recognition, creating a memorable moment for all involved.
The pregame ceremony continued with a powerful rendition of the National Anthem performed by Yorktown players Isabella Schaeffer and Sienna Katzenburg, setting the tone for a day rooted in unity and pride.
A highlight of the event followed as Pioneer League athletes Gracie, Eric, and Nicholas took the mound to throw ceremonial first pitches—each delivering strikes to the delight of teammates, fans, and families in attendance.
“This day was about creating an experience where every athlete felt valued, included, and celebrated,” said Brown. “Sports have the power to bring people together, and through K’s for Kids, we’re proud to help make that possible for everyone.”
Keeper of the Game Day is part of an ongoing effort through K’s for Kids to raise awareness and support for organizations that provide adaptive and inclusive sports programming. The initiative continues throughout the season with opportunities for community members to get involved through pledges, donations, and event participation.
Yorktown Softball will host a follow-up clinic and play day for Pioneer League athletes on May 9, continuing its commitment to building connections and expanding access to sport.
