Pieces included in my video submission presenting my artwork.
"Love", Digital Painting done with Procreate, size n/a
This piece is one that i’ve done more recently, and i’m very happy with how it turned out. I originally started it with the intention of practicing digitally painting darker skin tones, but the captivating eyes on the subject I was drawing soon prompted me to think about what feeling I get from this piece and what I wanted it to convey. In many of my pieces I like to add more graphic design type details, like hearts or stickers atop the subjects face or in the background. In this one, due to her expressions, I felt that hearts were appropriate, and worked well with the look of longing I saw present in her eyes.
"Smiling on the Outside", Digital Painting done with Procreate, size n/a
This piece is one that I adapted from a concept I had drawn last year. The smiley faces are repeated as stickers on her face, a design on her shirt, and as a pattern in the background. The melt-y distorted look of the repeated smileys in the background is in direct contrast with the happy looking stickers on her face, as well as her content expression. This contrast is representative of a disconnect between ones outer expression and inner feelings, and I think the repetition of not only the smiles but the bright green color accentuates this.
"Serenity", Digital Painting done with Procreate, size n/a
"Things Won't Go My Way", Graphic Design Poster done with Adobe Photoshop, size n/a
"Clay Pigeons", Graphic Design Poster done with Adobe Photoshop, size n/a
This piece is a definite favorite of mine, and is also an adaptation of a concept I drew a couple years ago. Both concepts include the subject laying on the ground looking up at a blue butterfly, but the similarities end there. In this piece I focused on repeating the color blue, present in almost everything including her clothes, hair, makeup, and of course the butterfly. I was especially attentive to detail in the peaceful yet intrigued expression of the subject, and the transparency of the butterfly’s wings.
This piece is part of my AP 2D Design portfolio. My portfolio this year focuses on music, specifically on songs that are influential in my life and how I interpret them to a poster design. This particular design is for the song “Things Won’t Go My Way” by Peach Tree Rascals, which despite being an upbeat song, always makes me think of the disconnected and dejected feeling of growing up, yet maintaining hope for the future. I conveyed this feeling through my design in the spread out spacing of the title and the blurry yet glowing look of the subject.
This piece is also part of my AP portfolio this year, and my original goal was to design a poster for the song "Clay Pigeons" by Michael Cera. However, as I explored my ideas and thought about the song more, I felt like a post card design would be more appropriate. This song is one that is not necessarily lyrically meaningful to me, but it always manages to bring me peace if I am upset or in a bad mood. That said, I wanted to convey the simple, rustic type feeling this song gives me, and a post card design seemed to fit that perfectly. I added personal touches to the writing on the right and lyrics by writing them in my own hand writing and scanning them into my design, as well as giving the picture behind the title and lyrics a more dreamlike quality.
