I am a Research Fellow at the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute (TTPI), at the Australian National University. I am also an Affiliate with the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. I have published various policy reports on wage and income policies, as well as tax reform. Some of my on-going work focuses on domestic violence, in collaboration with Professor Anne Summers, AO, through a grant awarded by the Paul Ramsay Foundation.

Prior to joining TTPI, I worked for a decade as an economist at the International Labour Organization (ILO) from its headquarters in Geneva, where I focused on wage and income policies. I also worked at the ILO's country office in Argentina, where my focus was on the informal economy. During my career at the ILO, I worked closely with trade unions, employers' organisations and governments to design, evaluate, and implement public policies using administrative and survey data sources.

I was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 2007 and hold a Bachelor's degree in economics and French from Smith College and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Geneva.  I submitted my doctoral thesis (from the Australian National University) in economics in January 2025 (the degree was awarded in May subject to minor thesis revisions).

I speak English, French, and Spanish fluently.  My full CV is available here. You can also contact me via email at: kristen.sobeck@anu.edu.au
