I'm a multidisciplinary researcher interested in the intersection of marine conservation, ocean exploration, cognitive science, and policy. I am currently a member of the Benioff Ocean Science Laboratory at UC Santa Barbara, where I lead work to support countries in their proposals for High Seas Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) under a new UN treaty developed for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biological Diversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (the "BBNJ Agreement").

My research has spanned questions in theoretical, empirical, and applied domains. Check out my projects page to learn about some of the things I've been working on lately.

I have also held affiliations at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Ocean Discovery League, where I have engaged in deep sea exploration planning and capacity building programs.
