The syringe-based mechanism is designed to dispense precise quantities of medium to high viscosity fluids by controlling the movement of a syringe plunger. The system uses a stepper motor to drive a lead screw, which translates rotational motion into linear motion, thereby moving the syringe plunger to push the fluid out through a nozzle. This design as shown below is suitable for applications requiring accurate and repeatable fluid dispensing.

The developed co-extruder design is capable to accept feed material in the form of wire (filament) as well as pellets and/or granules. Currently, commercially available extrusion-based additive manufacturing systems (3D printers) could accept only filament form material. Therefore, there is a need to develop an extruder for 3D printers that can accept processed as well as a primitive form of feed material.
