The documents on this page were donated to KDRG by Iryna Danylyuk in 2019. They were originally in the House Book with Jewish Citizens of Kremenets, which belonged to Danyluk's grandfather, Włodzimierz Puzej (born 1918 in Kremenets).

In the 18th to early 20th centuries, house books were a means of registering the population of Russian Empire cities. The responsibility for compiling the books was assigned to private bailiffs in city police units. Each private urban household or apartment house was required to have a separate laced book containing information such as where and when the registered person arrived, surname, given name and patronymic, class, marital status, age, and religion.
