Being involved involved in the Marching Band takes a strong commitment from both students and parents. All rehearsals and performances are mandatory. Every student is a vital and special part of our ensemble. Due to how important each individual's part is and how they all interlock to put together a complete show, there is a big difference in the group's succes if even one student is absent!
Excused Absences: Excused absenses should be rare and are at the discretion of the director and KRHS administration. Examples of excused absences include severe injury or illness of a student (with a doctor's note), death of an immediate family member, or marriage of an immediate family member.
Performance Attendance: If a student must miss a performance, parents must notify the director in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the absence in order for the absence to be considered excused. An unexcused absence from a performance may result in losing the ability to letter in band for the. year (director's discretion).
Rehearsal Attendance: If a student must miss a rehearsal, parents must notify the director in writing at least 48 hours prior to the absence in order for the absence to be considered excused. If the absence is on the final rehearsal day before a performance, the student’s participation in that performance is at the discretion of the director. Regarding sudden illness – if a student is ill and is absent from school, they are not allowed to come to rehearsal per school policy. The student must bring the director a written note from a parent or doctor upon their return to school (email is sufficient as well). If students are ill but are IN school that day, they will still be expected to attend rehearsal.
Unexcused Absences: Absences that are not accompanied by notes (or emails) from a parent or a doctor will be considered unexcused. If a student accumulates more than two unexcused absences during the season, their participation in performances will be revoked until communication has been received from parents. Two unexcused absences may result in losing the ability to letter in band for the year (director’s discretion).
