Azalea is the protagonist of The Hellish Cycle.
❤️Personality
Optimistic, compassionate, curious, a little naïve. She is cheerful & sincerely tries to be helpful, but her optimism comes at the cost of having the tendency to ignore her own responsibilities & problems, which often leads to a whole host of other issues, such as toxic positivity, being pushy & overbearing, or giving too much of herself just to help others.
She refuses to see the uglier aspects of existence; & while her optimism & positivity can certainly help others- her unwillingness to acknowledge the "bad" does more harm than she realises. It's not that she's in denial; but she genuinely believes that just being cheerful can solve all problems, instead of taking the time to understand the root causes behind why that negativity exists in the first place, or to question if the problems she's trying to solve are even problems that need to be fixed. She's dismissive & has a bit of a pick-yourself-by-the-bootstraps mentality. She believes she knows best; not understanding that what works for her, may not work for others. ...Or that what's working for her isn't working as well as she thinks it is.
She's a lot more lonely than she herself even realises, overcompensating for her perceived isolation from everybody by trying to befriend everyone around her, instead. She really does just want to help; but while her intentions may be pure, her execution needs a little more work.

Atlas: They initially had a rather... one-sided friendship. Azalea was eager to get to know the lonely demon, since he doesn't seem all that bad for someone who's been spending years in hell; while Atlas begrudgingly tolerated her presence as, while he found her annoying, he didn't have the heart to drive her away. ...And for slightly more selfish reasons, he's found that Hark's curse doesn't seem to affect him as much when Azalea's around. Even still, Atlas is rather cold & stiff, refusing to let himself get too close, because he believes she'll depart for good eventually; especially if she finds out about his curse. Meanwhile, Azalea's overbearing & doesn't truly listen to Atlas' woes & what he actually wants.
After Azalea actually found out about the curse, and the two embarking on a journey to save all souls in the three realms from Hark's plans, the two would gradually grow closer in a more genuine, sincere way. Azalea has to learn from Atlas that she needs to actually sit down & acknowledge the negative aspects of existence, and listen to what others have to say about it, if she truly wants to help others recover. Meanwhile, Atlas has to learn from Azalea that wallowing in his own misery only does so much, and that hope & compassion have more of an effect than he realises.
They'll eventually grow to be close friends; perhaps even like honourary siblings, over the course of their journey.

Immortality
Souls who are Undead do not age, and cannot be killed or die a second time. The only way for an undead soul to "die" is through reincarnation, as it erases most of the soul's memories; though, of course, that isn't a true death, but more a new beginning. Though they cannot be permanently hurt, instead regenerating over their wounds, they can still experience pain. Being trapped & contained somewhere torturous with no escape is about the worst punishment an Undead soul could ever face.
