The world ranking of Sangpil Yoon (26, Neufelice), who reached the top at the DB Insurance Promy Open (total prize money of 700 million won), the opening game of the 2024 season of the Korea Professional Golf (KPGA) Tour, rose significantly.
Sangpil Yoon was ranked 575th in the men's golf weekly world rankings announced on the 15th (Korean time). The ranking rose by a whopping 449 places from last week's 1024th place.
Sang-pil Yoon won the DB Insurance Promy Open, which ended the day before (14th) at the Old Course (par 71) of Raviebel Country Club, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, with a final total of 18 under par, 266 strokes.
Sangpil Yoon, who debuted on the KPGA Tour in 2019, had never won before this tournament.
He ranked in the top 10 eight times in 76 competitions until last year, including third place at the 2021 Shinhan Donghae Open, but had nothing to do with winning.
However, in this competition, he led from the first round. He briefly fell to a tie for second place in the third round, but managed to bounce back in the final round and enjoyed the thrill of his first win.
Meanwhile, Scotty Scheffler (USA), who won again in two years at the Masters Tournament (total prize money of $20 million), which ended this morning, firmly maintained his first place.
Schaeffler, who emerged like a comet by winning the Phoenix Open in February 2022, swept four tournaments in three months until the Masters in April of that year and rose to No. 1 in the world rankings.
Last year, she faltered with only two wins, but this year she was at her peak, already winning her third championship.
Jon Lam (Spain), who tied for 45th place in the Masters, fell from 3rd to 4th in the world rankings. Instead, Xander Schoffley (USA), who ranked 8th in the Masters, rose from 6th to 4th.
Among Korean players, Kim Joo-hyung (22, Nike Golf) ranked highest at 23rd.
Byeong-Hoon Ahn (33) was ranked 38th, Seong-Jae Lim (26) was ranked 45th, and Si-Woo Kim (29, CJ) was ranked 48th.
