Warm-up Exercises
The Kouksundo Warm-up Exercises gently activate the joints and muscles throughout the entire body using deep breathing and focused awareness. This whole-body activation is essential for activating the meridians and muscles, allowing them to circulate Ki (internal energy) effectively before the main practice.
The movements are used to circulate Internal Energy (內氣/Ki), which helps regulate the muscles and ligaments. This process develops the muscles while opening the meridians (energy pathways).
Ultimately, by improving the flow of energy and blood , we help correct your physical posture and balance your body.
Warm-down Exercises
Warm-down exercises help align the body by combining deep breathing with focused awareness on the parts of your body you’re focusing on. As your Ki begins to flow, weakened muscles naturally re-activate and misaligned bones return toward proper alignment.
Kouksundo is not a typical physical exercise focused primarily on bone-centered muscle correction. It is an exercise method that corrects the body by circulating Ki, which develops the meridians and muscles while promoting the flow of energy and blood.
This practice is designed to strengthen both your physical power and your vital energy, improving the flow of Ki (energy and blood circulation). It is a Holistic method that cleanses both your body and mind simultaneously.
The great news is there are no limits on time or place —anyone can learn and practice Ipdan-haenggong easily. The more you practice, the more you will gain: better flexibility, strong stamina, and a beautiful, balanced physique.
Gishin-Beop
Gishin-Beop is one of the core Kouksundo exercise, short for 'Inner Energy Circulation for the Entire Body Practice' (Nae-Gi Jeon-Shin Haengbeop).
This method uses the Internal Energy (Ki) accumulated through your deep Danjeon breathing practice.
It involves intentionally directing this energy into the internal organs to maximize their function and bring them into harmony, following the fundamental principles of the Five Elements (O-Haeng).
The ultimate focus is to fundamentally strengthen and harmonize our internal health from the inside out.
Kouksun-Mudo (Kouksun-Martial Arts)
Kouksun-Mudo is not originate as a form of combat, like a martial art. It begins as a Yangsaengbeop (training method for elevating life force) aimed at building and strengthening physical stamina to cultivate the qualities necessary for successful spiritual training. However, it is said that when foreign powers invaded, the movements were trained to be concise and fast, enabling the exercise of martial functions.
In Kouksundo, the essence of training lies not in developing physical strength but in enhancing energy (Ki). And Kouksun-Mudo (Kouksun-Martial Arts) is not practiced by provoking hostility or treating others as enemies during training. Instead, it is a period of calm spiritual discipline, allowing one to confront their own shadows.
This involves seeing your faults and weaknesses to fix bad habits, release tension, and find balance. You learn to calm anger and be patient, find motivation, overcome fear, be humble instead of arrogant, and stop being selfish. Cultivate the spirit to correct and improve all negative aspects through attack and defense training.
Sometimes moving fast, sometimes slowly, gradually purifying the body through energy circulation, cultivating a beautiful mind, and developing a dignified and expansive spirit.
