Detection of trace amounts of water through solvent vapors!
—Gas sensor replaces Karl Fischer titration for trace water determination—

Focusing on the property of DNA to swell when it hydrates with trace amounts of water, we developed a sensor to detect trace amounts of water in organic solvents (less than one part per million concentration) by measuring their vapors. This sensor realizes simple, non-contact, and real-time detection/monitoring of trace water, which has been limited to measurement in liquids such as Karl Fischer titration.
This work was made by a collaborative work between NIMS and The University of Tokyo.
