After a long walk, you finally manage to arrive at the art museum that you’ve been looking forward to visiting for a long time. After going through the main entrance, you get enveloped in light that’s reflecting from the white marble floor. You notice a couple of benches made from a light wood that looks a little bit worn out but comfy. You rest your tired body and gaze to the sky that’s peeking through the windows and the sun gently basks you with its golden sunbeams. You slowly open your eyes, still seeing whirls and bubbles of colors from facing the sun for too long. You begin to focus on the wall in front of you and eventually, your sight starts to sharpen, and you begin to recognize a row of different shaped paintings hanged on the wall. The one that catches your attention looks simple on first sight, but you start noticing the details of the delicate painting. Red crimson hair that slowly falls down the shoulders and a pair of green eyes looking at you with a sparkle of curiosity. You could tell from her body language that she seems shy but she’s trying to keep her composure. She’s looking straight at you, you and it seems like the painter didn’t want the girl to just awkwardly looking at the viewer, so he painted her with a slight sweet smile. Her hair is perfectly styled, her eyes focusing at the book in front of her that’s resting on her lap. She seems nice and cute like every other girl, nothing out of ordinary. Her head is a bit tilted and she seems like an artistic person. You could tell from looking at the little doodles and sketches that are covering the pages of her book. Her hair also gives away her eccentric personality, the painter used gentle strokes of a paintbrush to describe the luscious locks of her hair although it gets messy in a few places. Her clothes are plain, nothing really sticks out. It is just so ordinary. It almost looks like this painting was meant to be drawn to be liked by any viewer that visits the art exhibition. The lighting and shading are very soft and pastel-like. The colors are cheerful and compliment the painting. The girl is smiling at you, it is not like she has a choice to look away. Her body is facing the viewer as well, so she seems welcoming and that she is waiting for you to talk to her. She looks like she is really trying to fit into the crowd that is painted in the background but there is something off about her. Everything seems too perfect. You appreciate the thought that the painter had when he created this painting, but you would like to meet the honest side of the girl. Well, you spent enough time looking at this painting, so you decide to move to another section of the art museum.
As you take the next turn and you continue walking towards the end of the passage, you find yourself standing in front of a gloomy portrait. The character reminds you somehow of the girl from the previous painting although this art piece looks different. The setting is in a murky forest. The trees are tall and sharp creating a pitch-black shadow beneath them. However, you see a glimpse of light every now and then giving the entire piece a magical feeling. You start to study the forest with each brushstroke and although the trees look unwelcoming at first you somehow find your way through them. It almost feels like you are standing between the trees and you could reach out and feel the sturdy bark under your fingers. Suddenly the gnarled and gloomy shapes surround you and you find it difficult to move. Then you notice that you’ve been trying to walk through thorny knots that are zigzagging between the tall shallow trees. You know that there is a character in the middle of the painting and that the character is watching you, but you decide to continue looking at the setting and surroundings. Still, a pair of eyes are closely watching every step that you make around the painting. Although it is interested in you, it doesn’t approach you. Everything seems dark around you and you slowly start to get enveloped in a pitch-black shadow. As you get deeper it starts to get more difficult to walk and as you glance down at your feet you notice that the brushstrokes and the ground are slowly turning into a gooey substance that looks like tar. Branches of the trees move in a slight wind and create an agonizing howl. Then suddenly you see a dark silhouette in front of you. You would like to get back, but the tar is holding you in one place and what’s even worse it feels like you’re slowly sinking in. For some reason, you do not feel fear or panic, but you feel all your sadness crawling on your back. As the figure starts to approach you, you begin to feel more uncomfortable. You really wish you could run away but the sticky tar won’t let you. Suddenly you feel a pair of eyes piercing your back and you turn to look at the mysterious figure. As you noticed earlier, the character reminds you of the same girl that you saw in the first painting although it looks different. The hair is messy and dripping with the same tar that is trapping you right now. Although you feel like you are in a horror movie scene, the creature doesn’t seem threatening. Well, the word creature is a bit ugly to describe her. She looks more like a nymph that dwells and lurks in this dark forest. If you could pick three words to describe her it would be mysterious, captivating and…sad? All this horror like setup and yet the only feeling that is looming in the air is the feeling of sadness. Her mouth is shaped in a line of a judgemental smirk, but her eyes are crying with sorrow. You try to reach out your arm and touch the porcelain doll, but your hand goes right through her. She backs away and hides behind one of the trees. You feel like she does not really want to engage with you, and she prefers to just study you from a safe distance. Like she doesn’t want people to get to know her. Suddenly you hear the flapping of the wings and the branches squeal from the weight of ebony birds. They start screeching, it sounds like they are coughing and naming out all the worries and negative emotions that a human being can feel. With each word, one of their feathers falls to the ground. The girl bends down and starts to pick up the feathers that are tarnished from the tar. Her arms and hands are covered in scars, but what’s more worrying it seems they are also covered in an alive blanket of fungi. You cover your face because the sight of the rot that you only now notice is too much for you to handle. What a sad person this girl is. So beautiful yet she seems to be suffering a lot. She seems so different from the other girl that you saw in the previous painting. And with that thought, the world around you blackens and after fighting off the clouds of black dust you find yourself standing back again in the art museum.
