KOPASSUS COMPOSITION
KOPASSUS IS NOT A TROOP THAT DECENDS IN LARGE NUMBERS TO THE BATTALION LEVEL, BUT KOPASSUS WILL DEPLOY UNITS CONTAINING SEVERAL PEOPLE TO FACE A MISSION, THIS IS DONE TO MAINTAIN THE SECRECY OF THE OPERATION, KOPASSUS HAVE A DIFFERENT COMPOSITION COMPARE TO THE REST OF THE INDONESIAN ARMY.
OUR
COMPOSITION
UNIT
Four soldiers make up a unit — a 2nd Lieutenant officer and three junior enlisted soldiers. Teams with special functions may also include officers or warrant officers. An infantry unit might include two riflemen, one of whom is the team leader; a machine gunner and an automatic rifleman, who is used when small reconnaissance or special missions are required. Unit can serve as a base-of-fire or as a maneuver element.
TEAM
Four units make up a team, which has 16 soldiers. In an infantry squad, the teams divide duties depends on the mission and condition. Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader is in charge.
DETACHMENT
A detachment consists of a few teams and up to a few dozen soldiers. They’re generally run by a Major. Each team within detachment serve their own purposes. It could also go by different name such as company.
BATTALION
A battalion has anywhere from a few dozen to 192 soldiers. It’s a tactical-sized unit that can perform a battlefield function on its own. A battalion consists of two or three detachment and is generally commanded by a Major.
GROUP
A group consists of a few battalions and anywhere from 500-800 soldiers. A colonel is generally in command, KOPASSUS have 3 attack groups and one serve as a doctrine and training group.
KOMANDO
KOPASSUS or Indonesian Special Forces commanded by Major General and ready to multiply their forces to the uncountable forces, KOPASSUS is the elite special forces in Indonesia.
