I grew up in Moscow and trained as an economist, first there and then in Berlin. Russia's transformation and civic involvement during my studies shifted my interests toward politics, and after my master's I took up a parliamentary fellowship at the German Bundestag. After returning to Moscow, I combined teaching assistance at my alma mater with full-time jobs in the private sector and later in an international political foundation. These experiences and my ever-growing fascination with political science led me into an academic research career.
I completed my PhD at Bocconi in 2025 with a dissertation on electoral accountability for illiberal governments, supervised by Catherine De Vries. Research visits took me to Cornell, HU Berlin, and the University of Mannheim along the way. I am now an LSE Fellow in the Department of Government, where I teach, convene the weekly Political Behaviour Seminar, and continue developing this research agenda.
Apart from English, I speak German, Italian and Russian. I can also understand Belarusian and Ukrainian relatively well in reading and listening. Feel welcome to address me in any of these languages.
