Kokoro is a Japanese word that while directly translated as "heart," holds meaning that is much deeper; encompassing one's heart, mind, and soul. It includes the emotions, thoughts and spiritual essence of an individual. When referenced, it often refers to the innermost feelings and consciousness of a person.
Therapy can incorporate many parts of you and your relationships. Kokoro is all encompassing, and therapy can help individuals and families come to understand themselves and one another on a deeper, fuller level.
Hi! I am Erika Brinley, owner and founder of Kokoro Counseling Center PLLC. I am a busy mom of 4 kids, a wife, and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. I graduated in 2011 with my Bachelor's in Family Studies and Human Development (with an emphasis on Child Development). I worked for two years before becoming a stay-at-home mom. I have always been passionate about strengthening families and often used my degree to help in educating others on parenting or strengthening their relationships through social media.
After my youngest was born in 2020, I had circled back to wanting to further my degree and going into therapy. I enrolled in the Marriage and Family Therapy Master's program at Capella University in 2021 and never turned back! I have absolutely loved working with clients, both individuals and couples/families and am excited to continue to work with and support others.
I love to continue to learn and expand the way I do therapy. I am currently Emotionally Focused Therapy Trained, as well as I am a Facilitator for the Prepare and Enrich Program. I am also currently working toward my Gottman Level 1 training as well as completing my EMDR supervision hours.
