PRIVACY POLICY FOR LEXI
Effective date: October 25, 2026
Last updated: October 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Lexi ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use our English dictionary app for Android. The App is provided by [DEVELOPER NAME OR COMPANY NAME] ("we"). If you have any questions, contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. SUMMARY
- Lexi does not require an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or password.
- Your saved words, search history, and settings are stored on your device only. We do not have access to them.
- To look up words, the App sends the word you search for to third-party dictionary services.
- The App shows ads provided by Google AdMob. Google and its partners may collect certain device and usage information to show and measure ads, as described below.
- We do not sell your personal information in exchange for money.
2. INFORMATION STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The following information is stored locally on your device and is not sent to us:
- Your search history
- Your saved (starred) words
- Words you have looked up before (saved so that they can open again without a connection)
- Your settings, such as theme (light, dark, or system), text size, and pronunciation auto-play
You can clear your search history in the App's Settings at any time. Uninstalling the App deletes all of this local data from your device.
3. INFORMATION SENT TO THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
3.1 Dictionary lookups
When you search for a word, the App sends that word to a free dictionary service (the Free Dictionary API, dictionaryapi.dev) to get its definitions, phonetics, examples, synonyms, antonyms, and audio. Like any internet request, this service receives your IP address and basic technical information such as your device's network details. We do not send your name or any account information, because the App has none.
3.2 Search suggestions
As you type, the App may send the letters you typed to a word suggestion service (Datamuse, datamuse.com) to show autocomplete suggestions. This service also receives your IP address as part of the request.
3.3 Pronunciation audio
When you tap Listen, the App may load an audio file from a server linked in the dictionary data. That server receives your IP address as part of the request. If no audio file is available, the App uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine, which runs on your device.
3.4 Voice search
If you use voice search, the App opens your device's speech recognition service (usually provided by Google or your device manufacturer). Your voice is processed by that service under its own privacy policy. The App receives only the recognized text. We do not receive or store your voice recordings. Microphone access is requested only when you use voice search.
3.5 Dictionary data source
Definitions come from Wiktionary and are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license.
These third-party services have their own privacy policies, and we do not control how they handle information.
4. ADVERTISING (GOOGLE ADMOB)
The App is free and supported by ads. We use Google AdMob to show ads, including banner-style native ads, interstitial ads, and app open ads. AdMob and its partners may collect and use:
- Your device's advertising ID
- Your IP address and approximate location derived from it
- Device and app information (such as device model, operating system version, language, and app version)
- Ad interaction and performance data (such as whether an ad was shown or tapped)
- Diagnostic information
This information is used to show ads (which may be personalized if you allow it), to measure ad performance, to prevent fraud, and to improve services. You can learn more about how Google uses data from apps that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and in Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
4.1 Your ad choices and consent
When you first open the App, you may see a consent message (powered by Google's User Messaging Platform) if privacy laws in your region require it, such as in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. You can choose whether to allow personalized ads. You can review or change your choice at any time in the App under Settings > Privacy & ad settings, when that option is available.
You can also:
- Reset your advertising ID or opt out of ads personalization in your Android device settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads, or Settings > Google > Ads, depending on your device).
- Visit Google's Ad Settings at https://adssettings.google.com.
If you decline personalized ads, you may still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.
5. LEGAL BASES (EEA, UK, AND SWITZERLAND)
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on your consent for the use of the advertising ID and similar technologies for personalized advertising. You can withdraw your consent at any time as described in section 4.1. Other processing needed to run the App, such as sending a searched word to the dictionary service so that you receive its meaning, is necessary to provide the service you request.
6. DATA RETENTION
We do not store your personal information on our own servers. Data on your device stays there until you clear it or uninstall the App. Third-party services keep information according to their own policies.
7. DATA SECURITY
Requests to dictionary and suggestion services are sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) where available. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will help resolve it. Ad providers may collect advertising data as described in section 4.
9. YOUR RIGHTS
Because we do not hold personal information about you on our servers, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete. Depending on where you live (for example, in the EEA, UK, or certain US states), you may have rights regarding the data processed by third parties such as Google. You can exercise your ad-related choices as described in section 4.1, and you can contact those providers directly. You can also contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL] with any privacy request or question.
10. PERMISSIONS
The App may use these Android permissions:
- Internet and network state: to look up words, load suggestions, audio, and ads
- Microphone (only if you use voice search): to let the speech recognition service hear your spoken word
- Advertising ID (AD_ID): used by the advertising service as described above
11. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
The third-party services we use may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. By using the App, you understand that your information may be transferred and processed in those countries under those services' policies.
12. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top. Please review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
