Koelling Family Farms is located in the community of Bay, MO. Established in 2015, Nathan and Lana Koelling were married and welcomed their first son, Kolt, into the family. Not even a month old, Grandpa Charlie Koelling gifted Kolt with his first registered red angus heifer, MF Nancy 5163, from McMurphy Farms. Full sib to Grand Champion Female at the 2016 North American Jr. Red Angus Event. Weeks after welcoming their second son, Kade, in 2018; they began running a small commercial angus cow-calf herd. By the age of 3, Kolt’s registered red angus cow had already calved a bull, and two heifers. It was then time to expand their red angus herd with the purchase of nearly 50 registered red angus bulls and fall calving cows and heifers from Dry Fork Red Angus. The Koelling’s are excited to see how these Mushrush Red Angus influenced genetics build their program at Koelling Family Farms.
Koelling Family Farms may be new to the red angus cattle scene; however, Nathan grew up on a multi generation family farm in the Gasconade River bottoms just a few miles down the road. Here he played an active roll raising market hogs up until the mid 1990’s before shifting focus to their commercial Shorthorn cow-calf operation and row crops. Nathan and their daughter Lexi also raised Registered Shorthorn cattle and raised the National Champion Shorthorn bull in 2007.
