Previews: Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende MORRIS wurde 1923 als Maurice de Bévère in Belgien geboren. Sein einprägsamer Künstlername leitet sich schlicht aus seinem Vornamen ab. Er zeichnete schon als kleiner Steppke in der Schule insbesondere Karikaturen seiner Lehrer. Folgerichtig arbeitete er mit 20 Jahren für ein belgisches Zeichentrickstudio und entwarf für die humoristische Zeitschrift Moustique unzählige Titelbilder. 1946 schlug die Geburtsstunde von LUCKY LUKE in der Zeitschrift Spirou: Neben dem einsamen Cowboy mit dem großen Herzen und dessen unzertrennlichem Freund Jolly Jumper entwarf MORRIS eine ganze Bande skurriler Figuren, unter die er auch Berühmtheiten des Wilden Westens mischte, z. B. die Gebrüder Dalton, Billy the Kid, den Richter Roy Bean und nicht zuletzt die legendäre Sarah Bernhardt. 1948 wollte MORRIS seine Ideen nicht mehr länger aus der eigenen Phantasie schöpfen. Er reiste in die USA. Über sechs Jahre lang durchquerte er die Staaten bis Mexiko und sammelte fleißig Unterlagen für seine Geschichten. Dort, genauer gesagt in New York, lernte er auch René Goscinny kennen, der ihm seit der Zeit die Texte zu den Lucky Luke - Abenteuern lieferte. In 55 Jahren kreativer Arbeit erschuf Morris von 1946 bis 2001 das Lucky Luke-Universum mit achtundachzig Titeln im französischen Original, zweiundsiebzig mit Lucky Luke, sechzehn in der Reihe Rantanplan. Übersetzungen gibt es in über 20 Sprachen. Seit dem Tod von Goscinny verleihen Autoren wie Bob de Groot, Hatog von Banda und Fauche/Leturgie den Abenteuern von Lucky Luke das gewisse Extra. MORRIS hat für sein Werk zahlreiche Auszeichnungen erhalten. Besonders wertvoll war ihm die Medaille der Weltgesundheitsorganisation, die ihm dafür verliehen wurde, dass er seinem Cowboy das Rauchen abgewöhnt hat. 1992 erhielt er unter anderem den ersten Preis des Comic-Festivals in Quebec und den 'Grand Prix' der belgischen nationalen Comic-Vereinigung in Brüssel. Damit nicht genug: Anlässlich der Eröffnungsfeierlichkeiten des 20jährigen Jubiläums des Internationalen Comic-Salons von Angouléms erhielt Morris den 'Grand Prix Special'. Im Juli 2001 starb der geniale Schöpfer von Lucky Luke. Trotz aller Trauer bleibt ein Trost: Noch zu Lebzeiten verfügte Morris testamentarisch, dass es nach ihm weitere Folgen geben soll mit 'dem Mann, der schneller zieht als sein Schatten'. Mit Achdé hat er einen würdigen Nachfolger gefunden. René GOSCINNY wurde am 14. August 1926 in Paris geboren und verbrachte seine Jugendjahre in Buenos Aires, nachdem seine Eltern 1928 nach Argentinien gezogen waren. Schon in der Grundschule erwachte sein Interesse an Comics und Zeichnen, aber niemand nahm von dieser Leidenschaft ernsthaft Kenntnis. Als sein Vater gestorben war, ging er im Oktober 1945 nach New York und lief mit seiner Zeichenmappe vergeblich die Verleger ab. Nach Ableistung seines Wehrdienstes, versuchte er sein Glück erneut bei zahllosen New Yorker Verlagen und Werbeagenturen, doch niemand erkannte sein Talent. Als typischer self-made man verrichtete Goscinny die verschiedensten Tätigkeiten, bevor er Harvey Kurtzman kennen lernte, den zukünftigen Schöpfer von Mad, und zusammen mit Jack Davis, Willy Elder u.a. in dessen Studio arbeitete. Anfang 1950 lernte er Maurice de Bevère (Künstlername: Morris) kennen, und etliche Monate später beschloss er, sein Glück in Belgien zu versuchen, wo er innerhalb kurzer Zeit einer der besten Texter wurde. Seine ersten Erfolge waren Lucky Luke, ein sympathischer Westernheld, den Morris Jahre zuvor geschaffen hatte, und die Bücher mit dem kleinen Jungen Nicolas (Der kleine Wicht), der eine Figur Sempés war und von diesem gezeichnet wurde. Ihnen folgten Signor Spaghetti für Attanasio, Oumpah-Pah (dt.: Umpah-Pah) für Albert Uderzo und weitere Szenarios für Jijé, Macherot, Tibet und viele andere Künstler. In der zweiten Hälfte des Jahres 1958 kam Goscinny bei einigen Verlagen auf die 'schwarze Liste', als er sich bemühte, für Comic-Agenturen gewisse Rechtsgrundlagen zu schaffen. Er kümmerte sich jedoch nicht darum und gründete mit Jean-Michel Charlier, Jean Hebrard und Albert Uderzo zwei Gesellschaften, eine für Comics und eine für Werbung. Im Oktober 1959 hob diese Gruppe Pilote aus der Taufe, ein Wochenmagazin, das später an den Verlag Dargaud verkauft wurde. Herausgeber und 'Seele' von Pilote war bis 1974 Goscinny selbst, der dafür mit Albert Uderzo Asterix schuf, den wohl erfolgreichsten französischen Comic-Helden aller Zeiten, ohne dabei die Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Zeichnern zu vernachlässigen: Mit Cabu gestaltete er Potachologie, mit Gotlib Dingodossier und mit Tabary Iznogoud (dt: Isnogud). Der gescheiterte Zeichner Goscinny hat somit viel für den französischen Comic – und für Comics allgemein – geleistet. Von André Malraux, dem damaligen Kulturminister, wurde er 1967 zum 'Ritter der Künste und Wissenschaft' ernannt. Ein Herzinfarkt setzte seinem Leben am 5. November 1977 ein vorzeitiges Ende.
