Activity Log Hours

Day one 9-13:

• Began looking for options resulting in collaborative agreement on Red Cross or Wishbone
• Started working on our proposal/survey on what the group wanted to achieve
• Created and set in stone the rules of the group
• Began taking pictures for our portfolio
• Started the website

Day two 9-20:

• Decided for time purpose and management to stick with Wishbone
• Finished proposal/survey
• Collaborated on team logo and agenda
• Completed our SMART goals
• Set up our mission statement to give to wishbone when asking them that we would like to volunteer
• Took Pictures again for our portfolio

Day Three 9-27

• Worked on our website set up and organized agenda for the next week
• We thought about more options we could do to help wishbone if we get accepted
• Discussed team satisfactory and evenness between jobs to ensure an efficient happy group
• Prepared ourselves for the weeks to come

Day Four Oct 4

• We decided that we did not need to meet, and focus on other classes so we could focus on this project next week
• We have not heard back from Wishbone yet so this was very efficient

Day Five 10-11

-Met with the group to briefly discuss hours to volunteer at Wishbone

-Discussed further options of plans to help the facility

Day Six 10-14 FIRST DAY ON SITE!

The purpose of our first volunteer work day was to meet and greet the team with the manager of Wishbone facility, and help manage a pop up adoption at the location of Petco. We planned to help Alex with necessary duties needed to efficiently show 5 shelter dogs in a public setting. There were shift rotations that needed to be discussed, and general safety rules discussed with Alex along with his goals and preferences of the day.

-Woke up and organized our group to arrive at Wishbone at 11:00am

-Met Alex, introduced ourselves and begun to talk about plans and goals for the day/semester

-Unloaded and cleaned up the Wishbones facility van

-We took down dog crates and helped Alex organize the most efficient and safe way to transport the dogs to Petco. We did this by organizing the dog kennels in a fashion to load up the five dogs, and have room for the folded Crates for the showing

-We had to gather supplies such as water bowls, towels/blankets, and leashes to readily have while doing the service

-Once we had all of our supplies, our team helped Alex get the selected dogs into the crates inside the van

-We all drove to site which happened to be at Petco. The first step was to unload the fold-able dog crates and set them up in the foyer of Petco

Day Seven 10-18

-Discussed next volunteer session and went through goals for the next month

-We came up with a plan to split up the group to help Alex on a more available schedule

-Thought of ways to generate a small amount of money to raise for a back door roof

Day Eight 10-25

• We all met at Wishbone and begun to work on various tasks that needed completed at the actual shelter. These tasks were divided evenly between team members, with shifts so we could switch to ensure everyone did even work. The tasks at hand were spreading an abundance of gravel over some walk ways that were muddy to prepare for winter walks. This ensured that the dogs would not get muddy through the winter. Alex wanted us to re paint some fence posts and guard railing for the facility to keep things looking nice. The back breaking work was cleaning the gazebos, and weeding the patio, other landscape tasks such as removing leaves, and cleaning the yard.
• Dogs are not the most clean animals, though with a shelter you need to ensure that the dogs have the highest chance of resisting illness. We helped to make sure the facility was clean and the yard was clean so the dogs could enjoy the time they got outside.
• While we were doing these tasks, one to two people would rotate walking and playing with the shelter dogs, This boosted happiness and time spent with humans to ensure that the dogs would feel at home with human interaction when they get adopted.
• Weeding the patio was very strenuous, wishbone does not own a lot of gardening tools, so the members of Jackson 7 took turns cleaning up the concrete.

Day Nine 11-1

• Final day on the site included cleanup work of past tasks. The patio needed tender love and care to be completed. The dogs always need walked and we were sure to all get a chance to hang out and play with the shelter dogs, again assuring the dogs were excited and used to human interaction.
• We had to complete the weeding of the patio, and the rain that was falling helped loosen up the weeds and proved to speed up our process. We ended up knocking out the whole patio and the scenery was amazingly improved. This helps customers feel like the facility really cares about the dogs and that the animals they adopt are not feral. They feel like they are in good hands.
• We spoke with Alex about how he felt with our group and were surprised when he said we went above and beyond. We felt like there could have been so much more to do but he says thats how everyone feels. The dogs are in shelter and the fact of the matter, when they get adopted their lives will improve dramatically. There is only so much a shelter can do and the fact he had us out there helped him manage other managerial duties he needed to do, that he would not have been able to get done if we weren't there.

Day Ten 11-8

• Collaborate and execute day. Take all of our material and finish the website, as well as begin our final processes to finish the project at hand. This includes Power-point, the paper, the presentation, and finalizing our final product.
• We divided the power point presentation evenly between team members so we could all focus on one aspect. We also peer edited and made sure we were happy with our results.
• This day was about reflection and appreciation. We realized we have had a very easy going group all dedicated to the final product. This helped us in the final stretch because we feel like everything we contributed has had meaning.
