Kobo Clara 2e Download Books

EDIT: After playing around with it a bit more, it seems books in the "epub" format show up fine, but books in the "kepub" format (which I make with the "Kepub Output" plugin) do not. Which is weird because I got the kepub format to work fine just a few days ago.

First off, reading ebooks on the Clara works pretty much exactly the same as reading them on the Paperwhite. You read the words off the screen, you tap to turn pages, and so on. The text is crisp and sharp even when the fonts are at the smallest sizes. (Though, of course, that can also be said for the Paperwhite.)

When I first got the Clara HD, I hooked it up to my computer and used Calibre to copy approximately 1,500 ebooks over to it. It took some time, and then it took even more time for the Kobo to churn through all the books, organizing and indexing them for me. But they all fit on there pretty well, and were readily accessible to find.

With the Clara HD, you actually have to hand-edit the Kobo configuration file to add a screenshot option. You hook it up to your computer, then browse into the [Kobo device drive letter]:\.kobo\Kobo subdirectory and open the Kobo reader.conf file in a text editor such as Wordpad or Emacs that will properly honor its carriage returns. I use Syncthing to copy all my books into the device now. I waspreviously using Koreader's OPDS support with Calibre's web interface,but that was clunky and annoying, and I'd constantly have to copybooks around. Now the entire collection is synchronized.

Important note: Although the OverDrive app has been discontinued, Kobo devices with built-in OverDrive functionality will still work. You can continue borrowing and reading OverDrive ebooks on these devices as usual.

Kobo has Overdrive integration, which means that you can easily borrow books from your local library straight through the device. And this is without plugging anything in! No need to hook up your device to your computer.

PDFs are much more laggy on the Kobo compared to the Kindle. This was the main hangup for me when deciding between Kobo and Kindle, since I have a lot of textbooks in PDF format and the Kindle has better responsiveness to zooming in on PDFs. You can also highlight and annotate PDFs in the Kindle, but not in the Kobo.

A: There is no way to add another library on your KOBO, what you can do is switch between libraries by logging out of one, and logging into another. You cannot be logged into two at once, and if you switch accounts mid-book, you will lose access to the books associated with the account you just logged out of. To log out of the account you are currently using and log into another, simply follow the instructions for logging in, but start with, "Sign out."

The cheapest Amazon Kindle is also the best e-reader for most people. Its affordable price, portability, upgraded display, 16 GB of base storage, and USB-C charging compatibility check the most-important boxes, plus Amazon offers a massive ebook catalog that frequently offers better prices than the competition. Checking out ebooks from the library via the Libby app on a phone or tablet and then having them delivered to your Kindle is also fairly intuitive.

The base Kindle comes with double the base storage of the Kindle Paperwhite. If you have a huge ebook collection or like to listen to audiobooks on your Kindle, the 16 GB of storage in this model is a blessing. The Kindle Paperwhite comes with 8 GB; you have to pay more for 16 GB.

The Kindle ecosystem is huge. The collection of services that Amazon and its partners offer is a major reason we love Kindles in general. You can share purchased books with people on your Amazon Prime account; use X-Ray, which helps identify notable people and terms in your books; subscribe to the optional Kindle Unlimited service, which gives you on-demand access to a huge catalog of books for a flat rate every month; and opt for Amazon Kids+, which provides access to kids books, movies, TV shows, and more (a free, one-year subscription is included with the Kindle Kids model, which costs an extra $20 but also comes with a cover, a longer warranty, and no ads).

Like many modern e-reading devices, the Clara 2E can also be connected to your favorite wireless headphones or earbuds so you can listen to audiobooks... provided those audiobooks are purchased from the Kobo Store. During testing, I found that while it's possible to side-load reading material onto the Clara 2E, I couldn't get it to play external audio files.

1. The display size is 6-inch. It's about the size of typical novels or paperbacks which means the Kobo Clara HD is more suitable for reading those types of books rather than for reading PDFs, comics, artbooks, magazines even if you can do so.

An e-Reader device like this is made for people who love to read. If you love to read, this is definitely something I would highly recommend. You may think that reading actual books, eg the ones made with paper, is more satisfying. All I can say is you won't look back after you use an e-Ink reader because of the convenience it offers, namely you don't need physical space to store your books and you can access a huge variety of books.

Downside to OverDrive is, just like physical books, there's a limit to the number of copies. So if the books for a title are all on loan, you will have to wait for people to return the books. Meanwhile you can borrow other books, just like in the real world.

Overall, the Clara 2E was a pleasure to read with (it didn't hurt that more than 85 percent of its exterior is made from recycled plastics). I took advantage of my library card and Overdrive to save myself some money, appreciated the fact that setting the device up took 10 minutes at most, and really liked that it didn't interfere with my sleep schedule by emitting blue light at night. The only downsides of the Clara 2E were honestly its lack of wireless charging (which the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has, albeit costing way more), how slow its touchscreen functioned, and the fact that it didn't support books in Russian (my Ukrainian parents are encouraging me to read in the language so that I don't forget it). As for how the Clara 2E stacked up against its closest Kindle rival, the OG Paperwhite? The differences are too minor to be concerned about.

With Kobo's lighting settings, I never felt like my eyes or head were hurting (which is what made me stay away from e-books for years). If you're also sensitive and get migraines from too much screen time, you'll love the Clara 2E.

Kobo's e-reader has Overdrive built in, while Kindle Paperwhite has Libby access that requires a second device (like a phone or computer) to actually get the e-book on the e-reader. When it comes down to paid reading options for those who don't want to borrow books, it's another difficult comparison to make. Kobo offers a 30-day free trial to its Plus membership. The Clara 2E also supports Audiobooks, which the Clara HD did not have. From what I can tell, it works only with audiobooks purchased from the Kobo Store, and requires a Bluetooth headset or speaker to function (there is no built-in speaker).

The Kobo Clara HD has the perfect size display though, and you're easily able to navigate the books you're reading as well as having enough room to read at the same time. For example, you can hang your finger over part of the display ready to change page without having to stop reading and slowing down the action.

The easiest way to read books on your Clara HD is buying them directly from the Kobo Store, but there are a few other routes you can use to get titles. You can upload EPUB files by connecting the ereader to your computer, and some libraries also allow you to borrow ebooks too.

The Kobo Store is certainly more limited than the Amazon Kindle store. Kobo has over 5 million books on offer though, so you should be able to find the top-selling titles you'll want for the Clara HD, but more specialist titles may be missing here. ff782bc1db
