A lot of people from overseas who first came to Kobe used to settle down in the Kitano area, a small, elevated land area overlooking the sea. Kitano is now a wonderful place for a stroll, dotted with the very unique former residences of early foreign settlers, such as the "Weathercock House", a symbol of Kitano.
Shin-Kobe Ropeway takes you to the observatory at an altitude of 340m in "Kobe city Nunobiki Herb Park ", which is a popular spot with a full view of the city of Kobe and seasonal flowers.

Enjoy a panoramic 360-degree view of Kobe Port from the 108m high red Kobe Port Tower, symbolizing the port town of Kobe, which was built commemorating the 90th anniversary of the opening of Kobe port.

Enjoy shopping, various cultural aspects and good food in the urban area of Sannomiya and Motomachi, with shopping malls like "center Gai" and "Sanchika", which are at the hub of the latest culture and information. This area has many restaurants where you can enjoy Kobe beef, as well as stylish cafes. There is a fancy area of old foreign settlement filled with numerous shops in old western-style buildings inducing nostalgia for old days of the port opening in 1868.
In China-Town (Nankin machi), you can enjoy tasting various tasty delicacies while strolling around.
And in Sourakuen garden, built at the end of the Meiji era (early 20th century), which provides you with a comfortable space with lots of seasonal flowers.

Arima Hot Springs, one of the three oldest and famous spas in Japan, has different types of spas, including a brownish and strong ferric spring, called "Kinsen" literally meaning golden spring, and "Ginsen" literally meaning silver spring of clear radium spring and carbonate spring.

Recommended foods in Kobe include Kobe beef, Akashiyaki, pork buns, sobameshi (fried rice and noodles), as well as bread and sweets.
Kobe beef is a top-grade beef that meets strict quality standards. It is known for its tender texture and exceptionally high marbling, and is best enjoyed as steak, grilled meat or Sukiyaki. Akashiyaki consists of soft, fluffy batter filled with octopus, which you dip in a light dashi broth to eat. It is different from takoyaki, which is eaten with sauce.
