Prof. Dongjun Suh is currently Department Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Convergence & Fusion System Engineering and the Department of Smart Plant Engineering, as well as the Head of the Innovative Education and Research Center for Global New Energy Industry with Climate Change (4단계 BK21 사업단장) at Kyungpook National University (KNU), South Korea, which he joined in Spring 2018. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California (USC) from 2023 to 2024. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a specialization in information and communication technology (ICT convergence track), from KAIST.
From 2015 to 2018, he was a senior researcher at Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), and he led a research team for Disaster Risk Analysis for high-rise buildings regarding various disaster events such as earthquakes, fire, and floods. (PI of Disaster Project, MDCO Convergence Research Center, 9.8 billion KRW($8,746,000), Dec. 2016 – Nov. 2019). (Disaster Project, MDCO Convergence Research Center, Dec. 2016 – Nov. 2019). From 2017 to 2018, he was an Associate Professor, Dept. of S&T Information Science, University of Science & Technology (UST), and from 2014 to 2015, he was a research assistant professor at KAIST Institute for Information Technology Convergence. From 2007 to 2010, he was a software engineer at HUMAX.
His current research is centered on big data and smart control systems, employing predictive analytics that integrate a diverse range of statistical techniques, machine learning, and AI-based problem-solving. His work extends to large-scale infrastructures such as plant engineering systems, smart cities, factories, buildings, and energy facilities. With substantial expertise in industrial AI, fault diagnosis and anomaly detection, data-driven optimization, and intelligent control for large-scale complex industrial and energy systems, he has made significant contributions to the field of smart systems and infrastructure. Additionally, he has authored numerous scientific papers in refereed journals and presented at various international conferences.
