Knowledge Building Center (KBC) Template

Virtual  or Blended Learning Experiences Created by Classroom Teachers and Teacher Librarians or other specialists

Google Sites Guide

(In your own KBC, replace this title box with the title of your learning experience)

Keep in mind: We are creating a collaborative working space, not a list of what to do.

On this home page, engage the students. Give them a challenge or a problem to solve or something to explore. You might list an essential question and follow it with an engaging video or illustration. We might call this the hook page of the KBC.

Example:

Are You Tempted by Candy Coated Promises of Nutrition?

Can You Tell the Difference Between Unhealthy Food and Nutritious Food?

Let's Explore Together.

Creating your own Knowledge Building Center

Currently, Google does not allow the creation of templates, so if you like what you see here, use it as a guide to build your own KBC. (Google a few tutorials on how to build a New Google Site if you need help.)

For your own KBC, you can have whatever pages you need for a particular learning experience/unit based on your grade level. The nice thing is that all the Google tools are integrated into this web building tool and you can have both you and the classroom teacher as owners with a particular class as editors, encouraging them to work on the various pages.

You might have them submit their work and get their grades on another site that your school uses, making sure to link those outside resources from this site.

Think of this space as a large room where both teacher, teacher librarian, and students can work together.

We are creating an interactive learning environment unlike ever before.

The sky is the limit, so have fun with this.
