We are a team of researchers and professors working on the project Know BESS, with the objective to research on the present and future role of grid-scale batteries and energy storage as a whole.
This project is sponsored by CEATI- The Centre for Energy Advancement through Technological Innovation (https://www.ceati.com/), with headquarters in Montreal, Canada. CEATI is a user-driven organization committed to providing technology solutions to its electrical utility participants, who are brought together to collaborate and act jointly to advance the industry through the sharing and developing of practical and applicable knowledge.
Batteries are becoming an ever-important part of modern electricity grids due to the increase in share of variable renewable energy sources. This project will research the state of the art of battery technologies, their costs, and future developmental trends, mainly focusing grid-scale BESS facilities.
The works will involve the engagement and interviews with prominent stakeholder in the grid scale batteries market. The main objectives of this project are:
a)To get knowledge about practical application of BESS storage facilities around the world, at grid-scale, encompassing several components of the supply chain, including the experience of the owners, system operators and developers.
b) In addition to the existing reports obtained from governmental, association and consulting entities, to provide a survey among BESS owners and Power System Operators, to get deeper insight about the most common applications and services, their benefits, possible barriers to install, their costs and revenues.
