Sung Wook Hwang joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at Keimyung University as an assistant professor in 2019. His research group focuses on developing biodegradable and compostable polymers, sustainable materials, functional polymer composites, novel processing technology and recycling of conventional pre/post consumed plastics.
Sung Wook Hwang received his Ph.D. in Packaging Science (Polymeric Packaging Materials and Processing) from Michigan State University with Professor Rafael Auras and Professor Maria Rubino in 2012. During over 9 years as a senior/principal researcher and packaging professional at the Korea Packaging Center in the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), he completed various packaging R&D projects such as ‘Development of new high barrier packaging/functional materials with a layer multiplying processing technology,’ ‘Development of high performance flexible packaging materials,’ ‘Development of product safety information service solution using nano-hybride smart packaging,’ ‘Melt dispersion of CNT on polypropylene with a novel processing technology,’ ‘Development of functional compound and packaging for shelf life extension of coffee,’ and so on. He also did various researches focusing on developing a high barrier films, and biodegradable polymeric blends for packaging applications. Currently, as a project leader of SMaRT group, he is focusing the research regarding new type of composite/blend materials and novel processing and recycling technology.
