Kealing Cross Country- A Brief History

FOUNDER and Former Head Coach

Coach Kleiman started coaching youth sports over 10 years ago as my son entered sports for the first time.  Sports were a big part of his life growing up, and he wanted to be involved with his kids as they began participating in sports.  Over the years he has coached basketball, soccer, tennis, football, baseball, cross country and track. He has learned each year as his kids have grown and enjoy being involved to support them and their classmates to achieve things they once didn't think possible.

Coach Kleiman has coached cross country and track at St. Theresa Catholic Middle School for the 5 years prior..  I'm excited to help provide an environment for our kids to learn to love running and compete for their school at Kealing.

Former Teacher Sponsor and Head Coach

Coach Jones taught in the Social Studies Department at Kealing Middle School since 2001.  She has also coached the both the boys and girls Kealing Soccer teams, off and on, since 2001.  Ms. Jones grew up in Southern California, playing every sport under the sun. By high school she turned her full attention to soccer and ended up playing Division I soccer for the Texas Longhorns, which is what brought her to the great city of Austin. After soccer, she focused on running for an athletic outlet and have since run multiple 1/2 and full marathons.  Coach Jones completed the 300 Days of Run Challenge, running 351 days in 2016 and raising over $2000 for Dell Children's in the process. When not running and teaching, she spends her free time with family (husband and two daughters), mostly watching her daughters play every sport under the sun.

Current Teacher Sponsor and Head Coach

Brant Speed-Kealing Teacher of 8th Grade Science and Gardening

Brant Speed comes to us via Tampa, Florida. Where he received his Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Tampa. While attending school Brant was also a 4 year member of both the the Cross Country and Track teams. Some of his athletic accomplishments include All Conference honors in Cross County, as well as setting the 1500 meter school record.

After graduating, Brant continued to help coach his alma mater’s men’s program. It was during this time that he took up cycling as an alternate way to stay in shape. It wasn’t long until he was enamored with both the similarities and differences between cycling and running. Brant’s innate desire for knowing “SOMETHING” in an effort to better his ability. This has helped him to gain a quick and solid understanding on training philosophy. Over the past 15+ years, Brant has not only achieved personal success out on the roads, but has also had the ability to learn from some of the best in the endurance sport industry.

Brant's goal as Kealing's new Cross Country coach is to continue the fun inclusive atmosphere that Coaches Kleiman and Jones have fostered, as well as continuing to build on sound training principles in an effort to help student-athletes reach their potential.
