Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)
In rTMS, an electromagnetic coil placed against the scalp creates a magnetic field that stimulates certain areas of the brain repetitively.
Electroencephalography (EEG) Bands
Delta (0.5-4 Hz): Dominant in deep sleep, unconsciousness, anesthesia, and sometimes during hypoxia. In adults, delta waves are typically observed in deeper stages of sleep (stages 3 and 4).
Theta (4-7 Hz): Associated with drowsiness, light sleep, and certain mental tasks like meditation or daydreaming. Theta waves can also be prominent in the parietal and temporal regions during these states.
Alpha (8-12 Hz): Characterizes relaxed wakefulness, especially when the eyes are closed. Alpha waves are often strongest in the occipital and parietal regions of the brain.
Beta (13-30 Hz): Associated with active thinking, alertness, and focused attention. Beta activity is often prominent in the frontal regions during mental activity.
