After making the first sketches and designs for my concept, I asked for feedback, and this is what I received:
To improve the feeling of which direction the player should go to, I could add dust particles that slowly move towards de door. In phase 1, the entrance was at the side of the level, which didn't make much sense; the player wasn't lead to the places of interest that way, because the player would have to look to the left and right to see the places of interest, and it wasn't really clear where the player should head first. It wasn't really clear what was the main goal for the player (which is the door, it needs to be opened in order to get to the treasure room), so I could design the door with a lot of details, to make it jump out of the surroundings. I also got a great tip to make the main room partly darker, and the part with the door could be lighter, that way the player sees their goal instantly, and the second place of interest (the offeringswall on the other side of the room) would be dimly lit. It would get lit up when the player solves the first mirror puzzle.
With this feedback, I started to make a blockout. I found out that my initial idea/setup would need some more work to make it more visually communicating to the player. For example, I changed the main entrance from the site, to the beginning of the room, right below the offeringswall. When the player enters the room, the first thing they'll see is the door to the treasure room, and the three mirrors, of which the middle one on the door is broken. Also, when entering the level, the player walks through a small hallway and all lines of the silhouettes of the stairs around them, point towards the door and the broken mirror.
I also placed the offeringswall a lot higher, first of all to make space of the entrance which is right below it, and second of all, to make it feel more holy.
When testing the 'statues' in the middle of the level, which would couse silhouettes in the offeringswall, I found out it blocked the view of the player a lot, because the 'statues' where placed in the middle of the scene, right infront of the door, because of couse the mirror on the door, the middle statues and the offeringswall, should allign with each other in order to create a silhouette. So after some testing, I think the best way to solve this, is to put the middle statues in the ground, and solving the mirror puzzle would trigger them to come up to create the silhouettes.
